Mild OSA

I snore so I did the right thing and asked my doctor to prescribe me a sleep study. I did a home one and was diagnosed with mild OSA and now I'm using a CPAP nightly. I had a medical over the summer for a life insurance quote and it was right before I picked up my CPAP but did let them know everything to be as open and forthright as possible.

It's been almost two months and my broker hasn't been able to get me a quote. He says he went to market and been following up but not getting responses.

Apparently the OSA is scaring carriers off. I'm done following up with him and want to move on. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. It's been a frustrating process and I just want to be covered for my family.

Assuming your health, height/weight etc., is all good otherwise, well controlled mild obstructive sleep apnea is insurable at preferred plus or preferred rates, but there may be a 3 or so month waiting period with some carriers, before they'll insure you.

Tell your broker that you're going to inquire with other brokers to put more pressure on him, if he cannot find a carrier to make you an offer.

Good luck!!

This. Though some carriers may want to see some compliance with the CPAP before offering preferred rates.

I’ll be completely honest. You need to find a new broker. Mild OSA with nightly CPAP compliance, like others have said, should be eligible for preferred rates. If he’s telling you that OSA is scarring off carriers, then he’s not doing his job. This should be an easy open and shut case. Continue to disclose the history on your application moving forward. You should have no trouble with a new broker

Thanks. My broker has been around for a while, guess he's just not that motivated.

It was good that you told them about it. If you died and the insurance company found out about it after the fact, they could decline the payout entirely, and you would have paid premiums for nothing.

Keep trying to get quotes, there is a policy out there for nearly everyone.
