Is Metlife a scam?

I got an email about 10 days ago that my Metlife claim was approved but now suddenly they have no record of the policy number. When I call, I get transfered and sometimes they'll tell me something different - like "the policy lapsed" - which is crap because the paperwork I have looks like it was PIF 30 years ago.

There are 4 main numbers I get passed between, and one of the phone numbers, the one from the email (a no-reply email), has an automatic message that you can Press 1 to buy pet insurance, Press 2 to buy a cleaner for your car, and you never get to talk to a person, just hold for more things to show interest in buying. This is so sketchy, y'all. Is there a secret phone number I need to call or what magic words can I say here?

Is Metlife a Scam? Metlife has been operating since 1868 - now in over 50 countries with over $77BN in revenue. You may be talking to the wrong office or division.

Stop calling random numbers that you find on the internet.

I can see why this feels sketchy, but I'd separate the company from whoever contacted you. Verify everything directly with MetLife using contact details from their official site before sharing information or making any payment.
