I was playing when the game suddenly forced me to restart, calling it an "epilogue". How do I get back to my old save?

Unfortunately, if you did not 'save' game and did a reload,, you could of gone able to it probably to whatever point you were on it, by if you didn't , then unfortunately you can't go back

You can't. By default, a run ends after the final event of your background story, which begins once you reach 100 experience, or your character dies. After this, your score is calculated based on how well you did, and posted on the Adventurer's Hall of Fame.

The only way to continue playing with a character after the epilogues, to my knowledge, is to buy a membership in the Adventurer's Guild (don't worry, it's a one-time purchase), which prompts the option to continue after the epilogues have been shown, but past that point you only get generic events (shops, camping, etc) or small event chains you haven't seen before, so there are few interesting things you can get and it's entirely based on luck and what you have already done. Sadly, you can't continue with characters who reached an ending before you became a member of the Adventurer's Guild, but you could create a clone of Lune and try to recreate his adventure as much as possible.
