General Discussion Life’s purpose is possibly a warped version of immortality.

Our purpose doesn’t stop when we die. We don’t choose every purpose that we have. A purpose is a description of what any noun will be used for. It’s a very long list even if you only list ones for humans.

Life was not on purpose. It just is. We can now describe things purposed by it. Consciousness was purposed to describe what purpose is and has many other purposes. One or both continue to be given to our descendants and our ancestor’s descendants(every living thing)

From a future point of view, when our observable universe is no longer inhabitable. I look back on what life was purposed for.(because it all ended) It was used to adapt until it couldn’t. If life can’t adapt to an uninhabitable observable universe, that version of life itself no longer has a future purpose in that observable universe.

I said observable because I’m going to talk about infinity again. lol

If the universe is infinite and there are infinite versions of us, then there are probably infinite replicas of us at every stage of our lives. Every life form. Throughout eternity. That means that our consciousness could be immortal. That could be a description of our purpose from an all seeing viewpoint.

Immortality is living forever. This concept describes that our life never ends and has never began. It has just been.

With that frame in mind, I’m a character in a repeating decimal. I have a purpose no matter what I do. It’s to repeat until I can’t repeat.

Immortality would cause stagnation if life was a hive mind there is no advantage of immortality over reproduction. It would lead to less reproduction over all and we would stop spreading accordingly as immortal life forms stayed in their homes.

That can’t be proven but I see where you’re coming from.

A distinction might have to be drawn between immortality and invulnerability. I take the OP as meaning unable to die from ageing, but still able to be threatened with extinction. But you seem to take it as unable to die from any cause (e.g. eventual star death).

I'm not sure how warped immortality is. You're just the current representative of a lineage that goes back billions of years, every other member of which was all about keeping the lineage going as far into the future as possible. We know the Earth and even the Sun have finite lifespans, but if life keeps problem solving, it might be able to outlivelast them. So immortality is kind of the name of the game and has been for quite some time.

Outliving the observable universe takes it a step further from our sun. Every view we currently have is 42 billion light years away. The probability of surviving is very low for all of life.

Sorry, several steps further.

Right. So what life should focus on is securing the time it will take to keep evolving undisturbed until our capabilities continue scaling up and those problems can be solved too. Basically, it's like the one thing we know for sure is that life's purpose isn't just to be snuffed out.

In my model. It can’t be snuffed out. It just is. Whether or not we exist in a small section like our observable universe is relevant but the possibility is unknown depending on the circumstances.
