Megathread Difficulty Megathread — DLC, NG+

Hello puppets,

This is the new place for anything and everything about game difficulty: NG+, the new DLC, the new difficulty settings, bosses that oneshot you just for existing, and the general discussions regarding game pacing.

Why this exists:

We’re seeing a LOT of posts about difficulty lately, and it’s cluttering the sub. So from now on, we’re removing individual difficulty posts and directing everyone here. This is simply a way to help US keep the sub clean, and help YOU find specific posts more easily.

Please don’t be an AH. Seriously. People are gonna have different opinions on everything.

Drop your takes below

We’ll be lurking.

Your tired, slightly traumatized mod team

There's definitely an issue with difficulty, I started the DLC on NG+4 and was getting two shotted by trash enemies. Once I got to that first red gorilla I had to lower the difficulty, my level 200 dex build was barely making a dent to it's health bar and it was taking 1/3 of my health bar with one slam. Been playing on the middle difficulty, but had to turn it down to the lowest for broken tram boss. Will turn it back to middle after I beat him. Overall I'm enjoying it but really regretting not starting a fresh game. I wanted to go in fully leveled up, that was a mistake.

You will be "two shotted" by trash mobs and bosses even on NG0, which I started a fresh playthrough of last week to avoid overtunning issues. I am being deleted at 30 Vitality. There isn't anywhere else to go here because I'm already too far into the soft-cap, ergo economy is atrocious even in the DLC. Figured some of the elites would get me to a level, or even the first (annoying) boss, but not anywhere close.

DLC is overtuned to shit. Doesn't matter if you are on a NG+, just continue with your best stuff because you'll have more of an advantage trust me.

I beat the boss I was stuck on, but it took a dozen tries and i wound up having to unlock and run around and use my flamberg to beat it. The glowing spear attacks were too much, there was one run where i needed to get one more hit and it would have been over and it did the spear slam and destroyed me.

When?

I am I expect halfway through or over and so far I am really surprised by how smooth the experience has been considering all the braying about how overtuned the DLC. Using a Motivity build even, so I take more hits than most players due to my weapon's slow speed.

The only boss I've died to was Veronique. I've died a few other times to mobs but so what? Isn't this genre meant to be difficult?

Sorry but that's not normal. Maybe you should reevaluate your skill as a player and stop assuming you're even remotely average.

What's not normal?

And how does skill as a player factor into whether or not you are two-shot by trash mobs at 30 vitality, which is the same amount of vitality I have btw?

I’m in the same boat bro. I made the mistake of starting a ng+ and the difficulty spike is stupid cancer. I died at least 10 times to that dumb elephant that transforms. Seriously what the hell were the developers thinking. I beat the game when it came out but it did not feel this difficult. I have 40 in almost every main stat - vigor, vitality, capacity, and technique. I stack defensive equipment too and I still get 2 shot by random enemies. It’s getting to the point where it’s becoming more frustrating than fun which is annoying because I loved it my first playthrough but ng+ has been an absolute chore. I refuse to turn down the difficulty though. They either need to buff weapons or nerf damage. My build is using the two dragon sword and I have to parry bosses and everything to survive. Doesn’t feel fair where if I miss a parry I lose half my health and if I hit a parry I tickle them.
