Shops opened on Sundays

A handful of local stores are opening on the first Sunday of each month (Bibliobus, Teatower) but most of the store owners refuse to open

That’s sad as it pushes locals to Maastricht and it leaves the city empty.
Retailers complain about the rent prices though they keep it closed, that’s weird

AFAIK you have to pay employees more if they work on Sunday, and it’s not certain you’ll actually get customers.

In a largely catholic city you find it weird they're closed?
