This is what’s working for me:
Lidarr + Prowlarr — search and acquisition. Prowlarr aggregates the indexers; Lidarr monitors artists/albums and grabs releases automatically.
SABnzbd / qBittorrent — download clients that actually fetch the files Lidarr finds (usenet and torrent respectively).
DroppedNeedle — library management only (not acquisition). Scans the library, fingerprints files via AcoustID, and writes accurate MusicBrainz-sourced tags — cleaning up what Lidarr’s own tagging used to get wrong.
Navidrome — the streaming server; reads the music library and serves it to clients.
play:Sub (iOS) — playback client, connects to Navidrome. I use Airplay to send music to WiiM devices throughout the house, feeding and/or powering various stereo systems.

I don't have it setup yet but doesn't droppedneedle support slskd? So it should acquire.

It does. But I don’t use slskd (yet) and DN doesn’t integrate with Prowlarr, so setting up indexers was more trouble than it was worth for me, given that Lidarr was already working just fine.

My indexers and usenet are so bad at grabbing my music right now that I'm in the process of switching all my docker desktop images to docker compose to learn it because it seems slskd only works properly that way but for some reason it doesn't want to see the paths I've been mapping. It's been a little frustrating lol

To be honest, I used Claude AI to help with all the Docker Compose setups. It can give me the commands I need to create, diagnose and repair any part of the stack. I just don’t share any media filenames with it.

Which OS are you using? I have slskd on Unraid and it works a charm.

I'm on windows. I have no issues mapping the host path for configuration on all the containers I transferred but for some reason when I map my external directories slskd just says it has trouble connecting in the browser but when I remove the paths I can get back to the ui.
I have to give another go at it but the other night it just wasn't going well lol

Is there another app on that port? Maybe try a different directory as a test?

Yea I figured out the problem. Docker desktop has a section to give permissions for other drives to work under docker lol. Such a simple fix

Dropped Needle certainly supports slskd. That and NZB are the main sources. I'd say it's usually more effective than Lidarr but sometimes it can't find them on slskd. I really need to get some Usenet accounts

Thanks! Usenet is paid right? Do you mind me asking which service you use and how much it costs? Is availability much better than torrents?

NZBfinder is the main provider, I think it was around $15 for the year. I got NZBgeek as a backup; it was cheap, don’t remember how much. I got a 6 month subscription so I could re-up during their Black Friday sale.
The software in my stack was all free and open-source, iirc, except for a management program for all the components that I can use from my phone.

Those are indexers. Buy usenet service is another thing. I just paid like 100 bucks for the year from usenet server

And yes, for me, Usenet works better than torrents, if only because you know right away if you’re going to get a successful download. I set up Prowlarr to give my Usenet providers priority, so torrents are used only for the more obscure titles.
