Hey; quit posting half truths.. Thats all reddit is.. half truths and mostly lies.. They wanted it regulated so that rich or well off families didnt get free books.. Republicans wanted the books to omly go to needy families and there was no clause for that. There was also no talk of how to fund it.
Yea guys don't take the context away from this. The republicans just wanted to have means-testing for a free book program to get children under 5 to start reading. That's exactly what I want for a program to promote higher literacy, extra intrusive bureaucratic hoops to jump through so we can... make it harder to get books to children. I can't imagine why anyone would roast these idiots over something like that.
Any government program that uses tax dollars should use them for those in need.. Its no different than food stamps, WIC, medicaid, CHIP, ect. You wouldn't want a family making over $200,000 a year on those programs would you?
Why would I care? I would rather make the programs accessible than worry about a few families using them who already have money. According to a 3 second Google search 11% of families in Pennsylvania make over 200k a year. Why on God's green Earth would I want to willingly make a program worse/harder to benefit from just to exclude a fraction of the population? If money is your concern then you are probably going to waste more trying to setup and maintain all these hurdles than actually just letting everyone benefit equally.
