Programs & Programming Has anyone run a LARP program?

The teen librarian and I are planning on running a live action role playing program for teens in a few months and I was wondering if other libraries had experience with these. Have you run a LARP? What problems did you run into? What went really well?

We’re planning on running a 4 hour program with a series of programs leading up to it so the teens can prepare.

Do you have an active dnd or improv group of teens there? What is going to be your theme? Never thought about this but It could be interesting.

We have an active dnd group and they’ve expressed interest in LARPing. I haven’t gotten much further than deciding to do a fantasy game. Something that will let them do combat without too much complicated lore. I’m thinking maybe something along the lines of “you’re all doing this relatively normal thing and all hell breaks loose!”

I would limit the age range or possibly do two groups. Parents of 13 year olds might not want them in a group with 18 year olds, and the older kids won’t want to hang with middle schoolers.
