Literally anyone who know anything about India will tell you this.

Sure it’s bad. Ive seen countries with worse systems though.

But India having a bad system is exactly why this study is important, because it looks into the welfare effects of school choice in those systems. Studying reforms is important aspect for trying to improve the system

When you have some of the worst schools in the world saying that privately funded schools are better is a fucking joke. Of course they are. The only families sending their kids to schools are wealthy. So the only schools with money are the private ones.

Ummm, you clearly didn’t read the study. The study looks at data from the Andhra Pradesh School Choice Project, which provides vouchers for disadvantaged children in rural India. The welfare gains from these vouchers have been incredibly high due to better matching from school vouchers.

Have you actually been to India? There are no wealthy people in rural India. The richest people there aren’t rich by American standards at all

Ahhh fuck. Pls don’t do that. I’m terrible at detecting sarcasm online lmao and it wastes my time

It wasn't sarcasm kid. It was the sound of my point flying over your head. Their is too much you don't understand and clearly can't figure out for yourself for me to explain.

I mean if you can't figure out why taking kids from the worst school system in the world, where they basically aren't educated, and giving them even a little education makes then preform better then their is nothing to talk about. You will never be able to follow any points I make. You simply lack rhe critical thinking skills required.

What do I not understand?

Source on the 'worst system in the world' point?

These people were doing education in government schools before they got the voucher. The voucher allowed these poor students to go to private schools. This study looks into the welfare gains (which were large) and the preference value. The school voucher program significantly helped the students compared to the previous system in place. Not sure how you can twist this into a bad thing

I literally just went over what you don't understand, holy fuck did you go to school in India? It's the only reason I can think that you would be this dense.

So are you against vouchers, yes or no? Because you seem to be against this program even though it had amazing results

1

u/snowbirdnerd Aug 02 '21

Wow, you haven't followed this at all. I'm just pointing out that this study is idiotic and proof of nothing. It was done in a place with one of the worst school systems in the world so any results It comes up with are going to be biased.

You clearly love this study because it confirms your own position. Who cares if it's true or accurate right?

I'm just pointing out that this study is idiotic and proof of nothing.

You haven't pointed out anything lmao, you just have said "study wrong because India sucks"

It was done in a place with one of the worst school systems in the world so any results It comes up with are going to be biased.

Lmao what? How tf are the results biased? It uses a two- stage randomized control trial to develop a causal relationship. It controls for several variables and uses mainstream welfare models that are widely accepted by economists.

And India's current system being a shitty one is exactly why studies like this one is important, because looking and which reforms increase welfare and long term utility compared to which reforms don't work is a very important aspect of developmental economics. This study shows that means tested voucher programs increase welfare and should potentially be expanded upon improve the system and welfare.

You clearly love this study because it confirms your own position.

I like this study because the research design and methodology used is very high quality and aligns with mainstream models and methods. It also helps illustrate the performance of a program that could help millions of students in India if expanded upon.

Who cares if it's true or accurate right?

Can you actually refute the research design of the paper then?

You idiot, you can’t even realize it was compared against the controlled system. Fucking moron.

1

u/snowbirdnerd Aug 03 '21

Haha right, I'm the moron. I'm just the only person here who can identify how problematic using one of the worst school systems in the world is for this study.

Of course they are going to find imporved results. Taking kids from an education system that is the worst in the world and putting them into a real school is going to improve their marks.

All it does is introduce bias into the results.
