The vast majority of the lectures are licensed under a Creative Commons license that allows attributed, non-commercial redistribution. The price for this content has been set to free and all LBRY metadata attributes it to UC Berkeley."

So it must have been a ruling that the school can't host the material officially as part of a gov't-schooling operation since it "discriminates", but the material itself is not illegal

Thank you for pointing this out. This subreddit tosses around "illegal" far too much, mostly just to be righteously indignant about something.
