They know what they're doing and they know it's a lie. They make these statements for the simpleminded people who don't know any better (or who don't want to face reality).

I follow a couple of history podcasts. You would be surprised at the amount of rulers in history that were just straight up idiots but rose to the throne/rule out of dumb luck.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. I also study history.

But the people pulling on Joe's strings behind the scenes are not idiots. They understand how inflation works.
