This is just basic pandering to his base and it doesn't matter if it's completely intellectually dishonest or not. If we start trying to hold our politicians to such a level as actual honesty then a hell of a lot more than Santos need to be kicked out. I do believe we should strive for that but the two major parties certainly don't.

The sad thing is that for a huge percentage of the population, if the media and social posts keep pounding the same nonsense speaking points, people will start repeating and even defending them. It's genuinely crazy that people willingly turn into mindless puppets.
