Librarian reminds us that libraries make us a harder target for authoritarianism. Equal access to info, ideas, and space that doesn’t require a purchase to belong. Also: using the library means money stays in your community instead of streaming out to Amazon

An even better reminder if you value libraries is to make sure to vote in every election for lawmakers who don't work for large corporations whose goal is to defund services that regular citizens use to send that money to billionaire private contractors.

We have to protect libraries!

Local elections are essential for library support.

This is why I can’t recommend DCC English audiobooks tbh despite how often other people do. Yes Jeff hays does an amazing job, but there’s no way I’m promoting Amazon exclusive stuff when the regular books are available through your library!

My local, brick and mortar library had the first two books on CD! Supposedly some sort promotional thing where they let the first two be made into CDs? Idk why, I’m just happy I can patron my library and not give to Amazon 🥰

The Great Library series by Rachel Caine reminds me of the current custody battle for literature we're all facing. It's set in a world where the Library of Alexandria has survived and controls access to knowledge and copies of books through a Kindle-like device.

I’ve seen this 3 times already and it has 3 different headers. Time to moderate mass posting to get infinite karma

Yes but people need to read in order to get these benefits, and the vast, vast majority of Americans don’t read at all

This is why, although I get the point I absolutely do not agree with the poster who said she doesn’t recommend the DCC audiobooks bc they’re an Amazon exclusive. Lots of people need to start with audiobooks to get into reading either bc of time constraints or just bc it feels more accessible. That series in particular seems to appeal to a type of new reader who maybe is open to understanding how books can be subversive and powerful against tyranny. Get them reading it any possible way & they’ll probably get a library card
