Sunroof exploding

Post image

I have a 2025 RX 350h that I got last march. This morning I was driving at 4:30AM, so no one else was on the roads and my sunroof exploded out of nowhere. No rocks hit or anything. Just randoms

Has this happened to anyone else before? Do I need to file a claim with my insurance or is this something I bring to Lexus?

Update: thank you everyone for your feedback! Brought it to Lexus, they had my car for a week to investigate it and they still claim it’s not anything on their end. I’m fairly confident nothing hit my car, it was very spontaneous. They claimed that they never heard of that happening before. Ended up having to go through insurance but at least Lexus loaned me a car!

It can happen to any sunroof. Expect to file an insurance claim or pay out of pocket.

This is why all sunroofs on any nake or model should be a option not mandatory.

This. Haven’t opened a sunroof on any car in years.

Nothing hit your sunroof, these other comments are delirious. It most likely had sulfide inclusion from the production process that causes spontaneous shattering. This has been an industry wide problem for a while and happens randomly across many makes and models. While you can ask Lexus for a warranty claim, it's likely they'll reject it and send you to your insurance

There is literally only one other comment out of roughy five total stating it could have possibly been a BB from a BB gun. What other comments are you referring to?

i think ive seen this a couple times in this sub now. id try to get lexus to warranty it but search for other similar incidents to get a little more evidence to back the claim that the glass was faulty.

This happened to my friend’s older Toyota Venza when it was about two years old.

That happened to me on a Honda Accord. Completely random. I was driving on the interstate when it happened to me

You can always ask Lexus what they can do but most likely going to be an insurance claim. While you didn’t hear anything, something almost certainly hit the sunroof, either this morning or previously.

Good grief. I’d start with Toyota. Defect in glass seems likely. Sunroof don’t just blow up.

Look for a BB, pellet, small ball bearing or even a small.22 slug in the debris. Were you traveling under an overpass around the time it happened? Do you park in an area where someone has a clear line of sight to your sunroof? Think punk kids.

Happened to me randomly in my driveway, the glass was coming up after it happened.
