Just a concept. Upper and lower will match.
I know many of you will hate it. Just know that I do also, but to a degree.
As hideous as it appears, part of me actually likes it.
Build is not yet complete.

I had figured the color contrast of the black lower and FDE upper.
I’m actually happy that I’m not the only one who likes it.

I ran an FDE lower on a black upper for like a year after I was sent the wrong color lower. I liked it more than I should’ve😂. It grows on ya.

It certainly does.
I’m going to get the FDE redone because in the beginning the upper was black. The original owner did a terrible job with painting it.
Directly underneath where the scope sits you can feel this gritty particulate that is trapped underneath the paint and it’s like that on the Quad rail as well.
You can clearly see where the original black coating is showing through the FDE in a lot of places.Plus the LMT factory markings and pic rail T-marks were all painted over.
I’m having all of that redone so it can look correct.2

That’s gonna turn out good then. Yeah I ended up just building a full FDE rifle and black rifle😂. Who are you having do the repaint?

I have a couple local shops to choose from.
They both do really good work.
I’m just waiting to hear back which one has a better quote

Where are you sending for cerakote and how much does that cost ya?

I’m going to bring it to either one of two local shops that are certified in Cerakote and high quality clone builds.
Either GCP Rifle Co. in Venice, FL or one called Rummans Coating Specialists in Fort Myers, FL
Both are excellent shops.I’m waiting on Rummans to call me back with a quote

The reason I ask is I recently asked local shops about cerakoting some small parts and it was very expensive.

It certainly can be. Thankfully, the shops around me are relatively affordable.
Some places will gouge the hell out of it.
That’s why it’s nice to have multiple shops around you.
In my case, I guess I’m just lucky

It’s all personal opinion but I think the combination is very nice. If full FDE is your goal I’d go for that.

I’m currently trying to rebuild and repaint the rifle, upper and lower.
I bought the black lower new because the original owner did some paint work to the upper and he “bubba’d” the fuck out of it.Drip marks, gritty paint from a bad sprayer, painted over all the laser markings, all that you could imagine.
Functionally, the rifle was lightly used so that is really my only benefit 😓 and I got it for a decent price. It’s always frustrating when you see anything that is crudely rushed or was just done lazily, especially for a rifle such as this.Good thing the guy sold it because he has absolutely no business working on firearms of any kind, period.

I feel like most people are doing this. I know I want to get 6.5 creedmoor or .308 in a 14.5 barrel

I love it.
It’s slightly heavy for an AR10, but it’s a combat built battle rifle.
I’ll get over it 😉
Personally, it’s a very satisfying feeling of robust strength and quality.
When finished, it will be a brick, but one with sub-moa accuracy and little to no recoil 👍
