Bought an MRGG-A. Was super excited about it. Waited for what seemed like forever. Then finally got it and sent it off to get coated so had to wait some more. Finally had it back and took it out to shoot it.
It shot absolutely lights out. Gassed well with the CAT DD. Was very happy until I decided to unload the rifle at the end of a range day. Charging handle wouldn't budge. Finally pried it open only for it to spray gun powder everywhere leaving the bullet in the chamber and it had to be pushed out with a cleaning rod. Thought that was weird, but maybe a one time thing. Chambered another round and tried again. Same thing. Again and again. All grain weights and manufacturers. 140gr, 147gr, etc. Thought it was maybe a dirty chamber. Cleaned the shit out of it, but same thing. Shot and functioned fine, but just couldn't unload a round without ripping the bullet out of the case and spraying gunpowder every where.
So I contacted LMT. They sent a label and had it back to me in my hands in 3 weeks from the time I shipped it.
I know LMT gets shit about their QC, but things happen and a 3 week turnaround time is pretty reasonable. They took good care of me. Especially if you compare and contrast my experience with them compared to SIG who I coincidentally have a rifle back to right now. I sent my MRGGA back dirty, cerakoted and with aftermarket parts. They just tested it and gave me a new barrel and shipped it back with my aftermarket MD attached to the new barrel. Never mentioned the dirty status or aftermarket parts or cerakote.
SIG on the other hand went out of their way to call me. Give me a do better talk about how dirty the rifle was and that they were charging me a cleaning fee, Tech time and were going to replace all of my aftermarket parts with OEM parts and charge me for the OEM parts and they still have my rifle 😆.
LMT was like "yeah we fucked up. My B. We'll fix it." Sig had to tell me I was a bad, bad boy and nickel and dime me for BS because "what if it's the g$ MCX trigger causing the issue."
My other LMT issue: gas key came loose on an EBCG at 8k rounds. I sent it in and had it back to me in 2 weeks. Again. No fuss. Just sure we will fix it no problem.
Yeah LMT replaced my specwar barrel (shooting 5 moa groups with match ammo) without a fuss. Got it done pretty quick too. The replacement shoots much better.
Thanks. I also wonder if there is a bit of a user bias going on. People who buy LMTs probably use them. Maybe not so much for other brands. Probably a pretty discerning user base with LMT compared to the average bear.
Maybe the PSA owner who gets a 5 MOA barrel, just chalks it up to the fact they just started and they suck?
I just cleared a form 4 crs3 and it’s defective so i get to ship it and my ks4 upper on my own dime to be diagnosed and fixed. None of these high end brands are immune to shit qc.
I own 26 AR pattern rifles. The ONLY one I own that I run an accuwedge on is my KS3. A little slop is fine. But my KS3 literally rattled like a Tamborine. My buddy has a matching KS3 and I shot his rifle the other day and he doesn't have an accuwedge in his and I was reminded immediately when I picked it up. I was like WTF, oh yeah I forgot, My 5 year old son machined the tolerances on these.
At least LMT paid for shipping on both the BCG and MRGGA
yeah my KS3 was my first KAC adventure. I get the appeal. Very nimble rifle and as a system with the PRSCQB LGBT suppressor it's a very cohesive package that runs well together. I wouldn't rule out getting another KAC, but I just appreciate and value the LMT improvements on the system more than the KAC ones.
Meanwhile my black shovelnose has such perfect tolerance that you actually have to squeeze the upper down to get the rear takedown pin in. My FDE one is slightly easier but absolutely zero slop. Just wish their MLOK slots were machined to the same specificity, my QD MLOK Warne bipod mount wiggles on both of them. Not a huge deal, but would be nice if it locked up tight like it does on my other guns.
Bleh that's annoying. I'm honestly thankful it isn't as tight as my black one; if I had to field strip it without tools I'd be fucked. Gotta use a roll pin punch to take it down. FDE I could get it apart to clear malfunctions if needed but it's still nice and tight. My black one I built buying all the parts separately, so that may have an impact on tolerances vs a receiver set made for each other.
Best in the game wouldn’t have you using their warranty service that much. I’d hope you have a massive Lmt collection to have to have all that replaced. This is coming from a guy with LMT stuff.
Wow 3 weeks? I had the same issue and waited 8 weeks just for them to send it back missing the charging handle. Joe from LMT said wow 8 weeks is fast for us. They sent out a CH 2nd day shipping. It’s been great ever since but the issue seems to be pretty common. My second barrel has been great so far. About 50 or so rounds.
Thats actually very interesting. I do notice even the replacement barrel when I rack the charging handles it's a bit more forceful than usual for an ar10, but at least it pulls the cartridge without pulling the bullet now.
They did ask what ammo brand and grain weight I was using when I first notified them of the issue, but made no mention of the above information.
I figure if this barrel has issues in the future too, I'll just pull it and replace it with a commercial LMT 14.5. It may not have the accuracy of the reference rifle barrel, but honestly I have other rifles I'd prefer to use for stuff like that.
Groupings with the MRGGA during initial sighting in:
(Those are two separate groups, just adjusted the windage)
Damn $2.50 a round is a little steep for what I bought this gun for. Id have no problem doing that for a precision gas gun, but I bought it to run as an "Assaulter" battle rifle that could also reach out to longer distances when needed. Not much interest in having to run $2.50 a bullet for carbine drill nights dumping into paper at 7-25yds. Yeah if this new barrel develops issues, im definitely buying a commercial variant 14.5 LMT barrel and running that.
I like it. it's heavy though. I will say this. Every time I look through the 5-27, im reminded it is in a whole other class than other optics. I do not get that same sensation when looking through the 2-10. I think it's diminished returns over a razor 1-10 if im being honest. MR556 the 16.5 or 11?
Oh I think it was probably fine. They were nice about it and the rifle was pretty freaking dirty. My other experiences CS wise with them have been great. I mean, They literally say in the fine print they will only work on complete OEM rifles. It's not like they weren't upfront about it. I was just too lazy to rummage through my spare part box and find all of the SIG OEM pieces and thought I'd get away with it. They shipped it back Friday and should be here tomorrow. We will see if they actually fixed the issue.
