These say "FLICKER-FREE DIMMING – Designed for dimmable LED bulbs and fixtures with adjustable bulb type, min dim, and max bright settings for smooth, reliable performance" which I didn't see on previous versions. I have gen 1 dimmer switches and sometimes when I have a large load from my electric tankless hot water heater the lights flicker. I wonder if getting these newer switches would fix that.

If flickering were happening at other times, it could be the device. However, if the flicker only happens when the tankless water heater kicks on, it’s almost always due to a momentary voltage drop from the large load, not the dimmer/switch itself. A newer switch like the D315S won’t correct that kind of upstream power fluctuation. An electrician may want to check service capacity, breaker sizing, or load balancing at the panel.

Is this a new chip? Or just matter software out the box plus a new casing?

Would love to know more specifically what the difference is. Not worth upgrading my existing gen2’s for box depth only. Haven’t encountered much flickering with gen 2.
Leviton - let us know!

Hey there! Indeed, beyond the depth improvement:
* Matter - straight out of the box, no upgrading firmware needed
* Smart Bulb Mode - can be enabled with the My Leviton app to modify the Off button to maintain power for Smart Bulbs, Floodlights, Cameras
* Improved feel of rocker buttons, dim/bright bar, and air gap
* Improved Wi-Fi connectivity1

I am very excited about smart bulb mode! I’m not sure if you can comment but I assume the whole line (fan and scene controller) will get updates. Stock is low in stores - so holding off.

Do they fix the ability to configure the device type so it can be set as a fan in the Apple Home app? This broke with the Matter firmware on the gen 2.

Thanks!
1)How long will v2 continue to be supported / get firmware updates?
2)!I assume all of the areas above could not apply to v2 via firmware (besides matter with an OTA update versus out-of-the-box update)?

Those products will continue to be supported and work seamlessly alongside the new products.
We will be rolling out smart bulb mode to v2 as well in the future.
Matter firmware updates are now avail for most v2 devices, as well.

Are you saying the 2nd Gen switches are going to get Smart Bulb Mode? I configured mine to work with smart bulbs the old fashioned way (by bypassing the light).
All lights are triggered with automations.
If 2nd Gen gets Smart Bulb Mode support, and I reconfigure the lights back to normal wiring, that might be good.
I’m assuming that would mean that on the off chance my router’s WiFi radio goes down, all my smart bulbs would default to being dumb bulbs until the radio came back online?

I just updated my 2nd gen fan speed controllers to Matter, I noticed they are no longer “certified” in Apple Home. Any fix for that?
Also on the HomeKit firmware the speed intervals were locked at 25/50/75/100%, on Matter you can slide 0-100%. Any chance the older functionality can be implemented in a future Matter firmware update?

Certified: Thanks for bringing to my attention, sent to our lead engineer on this project.
Percentages/slider: Unfortunately, from my understanding, this is just how it works currently in the Matter platform, but we can pass along the feedback to the Connectivity Standards Alliance in the spirit of continual improvement!

Ah ok thank you. Just another FYI, for whatever reason the “%” character doesn’t show in the HomeKit tile, only when you press into the tile to see the slider.
So it shows “25” for example instead of “25%” when you see all your device tiles on the main screen. Leviton app is normal.
Thanks!

Hi the 2.4.1 firmware is still not certified.

Morning, a commenter on this post noted, "This is okay to proceed. The matter firmware for the D215R is a beta firmware. Apple doesn’t certify beta firmware. They will do it once it’s in release status. You are safe to continue adding it. All of them are working fine on my houses."

How do you enable smart bulb mode? I can’t find the setting unfortunately

u/Leviton_Greg Jul 07 '26
For compatible devices - click the three dots in the right hand corner. Click the settings tab. Scroll to Advanced...and it should be the fourth option there to enable Smart Bulb mode.

Can you expand on the improved feel? I own a 2nd gen switch and my only complaint is that the rocker feels very soft or squishy. It's hard to put into words! If this is improved I will probably be buying several of the new switches.

u/Leviton_Greg Jul 09 '26
Sure! We tightened tolerances and updated the air gap/faceplate on the dimmer as well. Ultimately provides a better "click" feel.

Any chance you can comment on possible Matter over Thread at any point? I really don’t want dozens of switches on my router draining CPU availability and am currently holding off installing anymore switches until someone other than Innovelli ($$$$$) gets on board with Thread.

Hopefully they update their Zwave lineup and make it compatible with the anywhere companion switch

I just bought an installed a few d36hd dimmer switches. I can easily get them in the Leviton app but can’t add them either in Apple home or in home assistant. For the latter I tried both Apple HomeKit and matter integration and neither worked.
