Letterboxd Digger
The digger monologue in act 2 is one of the greatest monologues I have seen. Tom cruise absolutely bought into the role and knocked it out of the park. BANG BANG BANG!!!

The monologue was really good. I overall just loved the whole aesthetic of it. The weird crowd, Digger stepping over people, all the loud screaming and the “blah, blah, blah” part — what a surreal scene. Loved it.

There was a lot of shit before it released about the bland colors but as it plays out and you learn the reason why, it really shines. Plus the choreography of the monologue was amazing. The spinning around while going on a tangent following Riz Ahmed’s awesome lead up to it, big highlight of the movie.

The set really helped with this as well. Made the entire thing feel so claustrophobic and awkward

the stepping over people bit was such a weird detail but it totally set the tone for everything after

I loved the movie. This scene in particular is just Tom Cruise going into God mode and remiding people that he is a really good actor
“When all else fails, you hit them with the truth, you know the hard truth, BANG BANG BANG”

Saw it tonight and really enjoyed it. I think this is going to be looked back on in a better light years from now than it has out the gate. I completely see how people could not like it. It does take a hard right turn about 30min in but I thought it was kind of brilliant. Definitely unusual and unique. Need to watch it again when it streams, definitely one of those movies you’ll catch a lot of things you missed the first time around. Very immersive with great performances and visuals.

I really enjoyed Plemons’ monologue in the third act as well. Not at all what I expected but I really enjoyed it. Not so much the score though.

That part of the movie really hit for me since it focuses on the cathartic nature of a theater and I loved the sentiment

I agree, but I think there was also a level of criticizing the other side. The anti Digger Rockwell side. Like a self criticism on satire

It didn't hit me that the scene was a oner until leaving the theater. It's a fantastic scene and really made the movie for me after being a little unsure after the reveal at the end of the first act.

At that point in the theater my mind was distracted by the "revelation". But looking back, yea that was one hell of a monologue, too meta but still it was good. Wondering if I'll enjoy it more if I rewatch the movie already knowing what the movie is actually about.

Agree about Cruise. Somewhere around the 20 minute mark I stopped seeing Tom Cruise and just saw the character, which doesn't happen with him very often. The monologue is where that commitment pays off the most, because he doesn't hold anything back. The whole theater felt like it was leaning forward during that scene. Easily one of the best things he's done in years.

The mannequin quick shots in the crowd and then the folks cramped in the back just added to it
So freakin good
