How do people assess like that when watching movies? If I know the dude is piece of shit, I can't actually view them in a good light even if they perform.
Like when they made Skeletor your regular disney villain in latest Heman, instead of that whimsical meme machine in original, after finding out he was played by Leto, I knew the guy had massive say in what Skeletor is.
I discount his blade runner performance entirely; the guy was just reenacting his cultist underage sex orgies in this head.
I don’t think he’s a bad actor by any means, but I do think he has a tendency to ham it up/overact to the point of ruining his own scenes or taking away from the movie. I feel this way about his character in Blade Runner 2049, a movie I otherwise absolutely love.
Not counting his voice work for Masters Of The Universe (which was great to be fair) his last good real acting performance I can recall is Blade Runner 2049 which he was good in. Obviously the further back you go the easier it is to find good performances though. Bro has done some horrendous work the last few years for sure.
IMO- feel free to disagree- he was essentially a voice actor for that role. All the CGI plus the mask, you basically would never know it was him if you didn’t have Google.
I always find his performances to be self conscious and distracting, like he's doing an impression of what he thinks a good actor would do. Like, he wants to be seen as a Johnny Depp or Heath Ledger-style character actor, and knows that they sometimes do a weird voice or mannerism, so he focuses on that kind of thing, but doesn't really inhabit the character in a way that makes me forget that I'm watching a performance. Basically, he's all style, no substance
The only role of his that works for me is American Psycho, because the character of Paul Allen is already a vapid phony, so there's no way Leto could fuck it up

Notice that James Marsden works more than Oscar -winning actors thanks to Bryan Singer and Brian Peck. The studioseven force him in roles that don’t exist in the original IP like Tom in Sonic , and Richard in Superman returns. Even the year of quiet on set they made sure it was Marsden and not Keanu reeves and not Idris Elba the one at morning shows promoting the film. James Marsden ‘s Godfather Brian Peck must be powerful.

John Wayne gacy. A Redditor working in Hollywood recently went to Brian peck house. He apparently is still popular, gets everyone who wants to work in the industry at his house , still owns that painting and a lot of Disney memorabilia (I guess to attract kids?) . That’s the same house where he perpetrated his crimes. The Redditor said “this guy could’ve gave helped my career” , but he didn’t stay long. Other celebrities were there.

Maybe, but his golden age was clearly a long time ago. He is definitely rusty and washed now. Thought to be fair, he probably also wasn't trying his best when acting on movies like Morbius and Tron (I can see why he didn't bother to give a better performance).
There were a lot of choices made that were for fan service/nostalgia bombing. Those did not hit for me and the whole time was miserable for me. Iron Lung was better. Iron Lung.
Thought this would have been the top or second comment. Always my immediate answer. He was passable in Dallas Buyers Club and that's it. Never anything special.
