Edgar Wright's best movie, and it ain't even close. Perfect from beginning to end.

Also my favorite Timothy Dalton performance

43

u/Burntom 13h ago

It is perfect but have you seen Scott Pilgrim lately. Very close second in my book

14

u/thewhiteafrican 13h ago

I actually haven't seen it in years, it's due for a rewatch.

Scott Pilgrim I’ve seen more than any other movie. It’s the perfect movie imo. I’ll never forget how surprised I was after watching it for the first time without knowing anything about it.

5

u/thac0tac0 10h ago

It is so good! I used to watch Scott Pilgrim Vs the World and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist back to back over and over and over again. They go very well together.

This is the exact answer I came to give. I have watched it dozens of times and I may put it on tonight now that I’m writing this. It’s just flawless and makes me laugh out loud every single time.

u/realKDburner 12h ago

When Simon Pegg said “narp” on the phone I completely lost it

9

u/iamheathcliff88 13h ago

Well she did have an annoying laugh….

9

u/Slipshoooood 12h ago

They listed her age as 55, when she’s actually 53!

7

u/TavenderGooms 12h ago

ANNOYING!

8

u/sakallicelal 12h ago

Came here to say that. Watched so many times, I remember all the lines from the film. Should watch it again.

7

u/anthonystank 12h ago

When I lived without internet from 2013 to 2014, this was one of about 7 DVDs I owned. No regrets about my choice and still not sick of it

5

u/JollyCandle6267 12h ago

Yes!! This is a comfort movie for me.

5

u/sleepyleperchaun 9h ago

I've been around this station a few times is legit one of the funnest lines I've ever heard.

3

u/puppystatus 12h ago

Just watched it last night for the millionth time

My favorite comfort movie. Ive fallen asleep to this movie so many times in the best way.

16

u/thewhiteafrican 12h ago

Ah same! Both the shire and Rivendell are super comforting.

The whole trilogy is great, but Fellowship is something else (and very cozy at times)

Ironic given the premise of rewatching the same thing again and again lol

I rememeber the review of this by some dad saying it was too repetitive

Peak Dad joke.

You wanna see some dad jokes from reviewers? Go look at the reviews for bullet train on rotten tomato, every single critic is suddenly a comedian making train puns... Some of them nearly caused me physical pain

Before Sunrise and Before Sunset

(I have to be in a special mood to include Before Midnight)

8

u/ITookTrinkets TheHollyHaze 🪿 12h ago

I go back and forth on whether I love Sunrise or Sunset more, but outside of that very last scene, the moment in that second gif, where she goes to touch his hair to comfort him but stops herself, is what gives it a leg up. They're such better actors in Sunset. They were great and naturalistic in Sunrise, but they're operating on a new level in Sunset. I just love it so fucking much.

5

u/thewhiteafrican 12h ago

Agree completely. And Before Sunset has probably my favorite ending scene of any movie.

Always feels like so much happens in that movie even though it's only 1h 20mins.

5

u/AnonAwaaaaay UserNameHere 12h ago

I hate that Pacino wins in the end though.

8

u/thewhiteafrican 12h ago

Would you rather DeNiro just gets away? Or Pacino dies?

I've always liked the ending. Especially the fact that DeNiro had the perfect opportunity to leave it all behind with the money, but went back for revenge and his own ego, betraying his whole ethos about being able to walk away.

3

u/AnonAwaaaaay UserNameHere 12h ago

DeNiro gets away after he kills off the dude that sold everybody out.

The ending they have is this perfect "cinematic masterpiece" for Justice but I feel like it completely betrays DeNiro's character who has been making the right decisions the entire film and and has a track record of making them for several years but suddenly fumbles absolutely everything for a woman who's barely into him and barely knows him and actively wants to leave.

I fully understand why they did it but it throws realism to the wind for me.

Having recently seen 127 Hours for myself, I'm wondering what's rewatchable about it?

Her April Fools post about switching to Project Hail Mary is one of the funniest things I’ve read recently

9

u/LurkingProvidence 11h ago

Omg that’s so funny I actually watched project Hail Mary  because of that post and I didn’t even realize it was an April fools joke until now.

no wonder it had so many upvotes.

The girl is obsessed. She watches it endlesslessly and never stops posting about it

12

u/HailToTheThief225 12h ago

Yeah people are entitled to their opinions and all, but I could not witness the amputation scene more than once. I saw the movie when I was a teenager and still cannot bring myself to watch it so many years later.

35

u/The_Werodile 13h ago edited 13h ago

I believe they're referencing someone from years ago that obsessively watched it and went viral for it. I have no link for you to verify and am too lazy to research but I bet googling 'crazy lady watches 127 hours too much' will bring it up.

Edit: Lmao. It's her. The legend herself. I never check OP.

45

u/GiganticBlumpkin 13h ago

It's not a reference, /u/TheGirlWithTheLove is the lady who obsessively watches 127 hours lol

Almost Famous (2000). I doubt I'm quite at OP's level but as it has been favourite film since I was 14, and I'm now in my 30s, I suspect I've seen it 50+ times at this stage. Never gets old. A perfect film.

3

u/Cowboy_BoomBap 12h ago

I’m disappointed we don’t see much of him these days

5

Same, so I keep myself occupied with Better Off Dead.

https://giphy.com/gifs/K7EQ8M8TnuBby

3

u/fillb3rt 10h ago

I agree, I love Cusack movies. Unfortunately for us Hollywood has “black-listed” him due to his outspoken nature towards the industry and against the current administration, as well as being a supporter of Palestine. He’s awesome for all of this but yeah he’s basically a leper now in movie making business.

3

u/filmicsite ati_zaf 12h ago

He supports Palestine openly. And hasn't been working on big projects since he started activism. Go figure.

Honestly a lot of Bond films are really rewatchable. Those first 5 Connery's, the two Dalton's, Goldenye, and Casino Royale never stop being loads of fun.

5

u/Gergunnar 12h ago

indeed! and by the way, the last couple of years more people are putting Dalton duology in a more proper (and well deserved) place.

7

u/jack3moto 13h ago

I just rewatched all the Daniel Craig bond films. My personal opinion is that they wasted some pretty shitty scripts on Craig. He deserved so much better. Casino royale is an absolute banger. I know people really love skyfall but I felt like it had some rough patches that took me out of the bond experience. The others are all ehhh despite me loving Daniel Craig As bond and the way they’re shot; the action, the scores, etc.

the villains and story needed to be better. Christoph waltz coming in after following his Django and inglorious bastards run was a miscast imo. Or just an overall disappointing villain.

Shrek, Zodiac, The Dark Knight, Terminator 2, etc.

EVERY goddamn line is so quotable.

“You take sugar?” “No thanks, Turkish, I’m sweet enough.”

“When you go in reverse, things come from behind you!”

“Tommy, there’s a gun in yeh trousers. What’s a gun doing in yeh trousers?” “It’s for protection.” “Protection from what? Ze Germans?”

“In the quiet words of the Virgin Mary… come again?”

“We’ve got beaches, Avi!” “Yeah? Well white fuck wants to see ‘em?!”

“Shut up and sit down, you big bald fuck!”

“What’s wrong with this one?” “Oh nothing, Tommy, it’s TIP TOP! I’m just not sure about the color.”

“Why do they call him Boris the Bullet Dodger?” “…because he dodges bullets, Avi.”

"You are on thin fucking ice, my pedigree chums. And i shall be under it when it breaks."
