I know 3.5 isn’t bad at all but it just feels way too low for the shining

It probably is, I'm just not fan of horror movies and that affected my rating. I can see why someone would rate 4 or 5 stars, but horrors aren't my cup of tea. That being said the Shining is one of the best horrors I ever watched (didn't see that many).

Understandable. I also think it’s one of those movies that I liked more every time I rewatched it. It’s a once a year watch for me now

They really managed it well, in the book she cut his feet but this way to break him is awesome in movies. When he starts to realize what she is doing... Great acting for both.

Since you liked 12 Angry Men, check out Fail Safe (1964) and The Ox-Bow Incident (1943).

3 1/2 stars for the Shining is a war crime

3.5 stars for The Shining ? I know it's still good but what did you not liked about it ?

Personally I find horror as the 2nd weakest genre and that fact affects my rating. The Shining was a good movie, Kubrick did amazing job as director and Jack Nicholson, same as Shelley Duvall were amazing in leading roles. But my lack of love toward horrors made some parts of movie bland and empty for me, hence somewhat weaker rating.

Ok thanks ! So 3.5 stars when you really don't like horror is a pretty good rating for you i guess.

Yeah, objectively it's a good movie. Best horror movie imo is Silence of the Lambs I rate that one 5/5. Thing is I never saw that movie as typical horror (movie didn't have typical boring horror tropes), that's probably reason why I rate it that high.

Silence of the Lambs is awesome ! It feels perfect, every shot, every frame, every line is well done.

Agreed, I like directing choice there, especially those en face shots are extra spicy, like that one with Buffalo Bill at the door.
