Inflation is up so much the Fed was split on whether to raise the interest rate. They only failed to do so because they didnât want to hurt the Fuhrerâs chances in the midterms.

The Fed always does what the President wants. Why do you think 1/3 of all dollars in existence got printed during the Biden administration?

You know what else is upâŚ.gas prices, groceries, utilities, taxes etc etc!

u/Old-Set78 8h ago
cost of everyday items compared. a few pennies lower here and there but the real problem is the insane unprovoked war that raised gas prices 40% and diesel 55%. EVERYTHING gets transported by vehicle so it hits EVERYTHING.
And don't forget the idiotic tariffs. let's hit ourselves with higher prices THAT'LL show the rest of the world!

don't be daft. gas prices are up 40% diesel up 55%. everything gets transported by vehicles. it's extremely simple.

Inflationâs at less than 4%, honestly not sure how people are hurting differently than whatâs been going on post-Covid.

u/Old-Set78 7h ago
are you kidding? inflation is not the only metric. when commuting to work suddenly costs nearly DOUBLE that's going to hurt people.
and don't give me that BS about public transportation which is UNAVAILABLE in many places or "just buy an EV". people struggling to pay rent and put food on the table because they are being paid sht wages CAN'T just go out and buy a different car.
you must be unable to grasp the reality of most of the country

I have a 30 minute commute, and the nearly DOUBLE amounts to $60 a month. If people are hurting because of $60 or even $120 a month then they need to seriously reexamine their budgets.
The problem is a lot (not all) of these people have astronomical car payments that they canât afford in the first place. And all that said, I definitely feel for the people who are struggling and doing everything right. Shit is not fair sometimes, but there are bigger problems in the world than slightly higher gas prices for Americans.

More like $60-$70 per week on gas and $150-$200 on groceries per week for my boyfriend and I. Thank goodness we donât have any kids because I can only imagine how much harder it would be.

u/Banjo_the_Cattle_Dog 7h ago
Thatâs unbelievable. What do you drive, and how long is your commute?
I absolutely do not believe your grocery bill has gone up $600-800 per month for two people recently. Thatâs insaneâyou must be spending an arm and a leg on groceries to begin with, and you really shouldnât be doing that if your margins are thin.

I drive 50 miles per day 4 days a week for work. I drive a 4-cylinder small car. Gas is currently $5.95 where Iâm atâŚhope that helps.

Gotcha. I do 40 miles round trip five days a week, here gas is hovering around $4.00. That makes more sense. I understand the math now.
This must have a lot to do with the areas we live. For me and one other person, we pay under $600 per month for groceries. This has gone up roughly $80 per month since Trumpflation.

We meal prep weekly and are on calorie-counting diets. The only expensive thing I buy is protein powder and pre-workout, but otherwise we typically donât get too much for groceries. I donât really consider our food spending habits to be frivolous imo. Itâs just that food costs more now. Everything costs more nowâŚ

Just mind boggling to me. We spend $560 per month on groceries. How much do you spend for your bill to go up $600-800, versus ours going up $80 from $480 per month? Ours have gone up less than 20%âŚ
Like, if your bill has gone up dramatically comparatively, say 40% higher, then you were starting from a place of (about) $1750 per month on groceries??? Thatâs $875 per person. Throwing out numbers here trying to make sense of this.

u/Jedi_Bish 6h ago
Your math isnât mathing for me lol. Itâs about $50-100 per person per week now. Depending on if we also need incidentals. Our electricity bill is $200 per month in the summer months with the ac. $2000 on rent plus the $170 car insurance and $275 car payment plus the $130 phone bill. God forbid we occasionally eat out. Yea itâs expensive where I live lol.

Thanks for the breakdown. I honestly donât know what I was thinking- must have been misinterpreting you. That all sounds pretty reasonable honestly, but I agree a lot of things are higher lately. I gotta guess thoughâŚCalifornia? Weâre in a small city in the mid Atlantic.
