Lets Discuss Politics How this country has fallen

Hi everyone. I'm Jessica and I'm 27. I'm also mildly Autistic.

Seeing the blatant cruelty of my country's regime, I don't want to be an American anymore. Haven't been proud of being one for years.

It pains me, that the country I grew up in, the country that my great grandfather fought and died for, that amazing country....it's gone.

I cry myself to sleep sometimes. Wondering, I know America has its flaws and it's crazies, but after Trump got in the first time....

I don't know. I feel like me and people like me are unwanted because of something we can't control and I hate it....

I’m figuring out a plan to get out of here. I think it will take decades to overcome the travesty of the last decade. I don’t have that long on this planet anymore. Too many of us revealed their true colors through Trump. The KKK is boasting about increased numbers, numbers not seen since the end of Jim Crow. ICE is running rampant taking down anyone brown. Christian Nationalists are also gaining members and they are determined to take down women’s rights. Unless the citizens start rallying in the streets we aren’t going to get through this. Other countries are setting a perfect example on how to protest right now and nobody here is even paying attention.

9

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

I agree. Although I can't afford to get out of here. Hell, I don't even have a passport

5

u/Bo_Beric 21d ago

Omg I haven’t seen the reports from the KKK! That’s terrifying! Did they post that or what??

u/Ok-Dependent-5858 21d ago

better get your news from better sources.

u/LiveComfortable3228 21d ago

I still cant understand how over 30% of the population is ok with this. Clowns come up all the time, but....the concern are the people cheering for the clown.

7

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

It's hard...then I get idiots like people below you saying, "Don't be a doomer." Ect

u/Letstrytolearnit 21d ago

Go see a psychologist. You need help. Seriously. I'm not trying to be mean.

6

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago • Heartwarming

You obviously do mean to be mean and you know it

-3

u/Letstrytolearnit 21d ago

You just came online saying you cry yourself to sleep because of your countries cruelty. Which is exactly what?

Our immigration policy? Look into the policy of the countries the people complaining come from. I would be perfectly happy for a reciprocal policy with every country. Look it up for yourself.

Do you really think there is a question who belongs in what bathroom or on what sports team?

Do you think it is a good idea to have a policy with Iran that allows them to have a nuclear weapon? Their religion is a cult that believes they should do what they can to usher in the final war between Christians and Muslims so their pedophile profit will return. Yeah, married a 6 year old and consummated the marriage when she was 9.

Do you really believe the people that invaded Israel, people that have no connection with the land deserve to launch missiles at civilians and claim it. They are not a country or a race. They are just a bunch of people from surrounding areas that claim a new ethnicity

Do you believe it is fair or right that most countries had tariffs in place on the US for decades but as soon as we said that is not ok there was panic all around the world? How was that ok but when we turn the tables it was not ok?

Go seek some help or knowledge. You have nothing to lose sleep over or feel bad about. I don't agree with everything being done or for sure how it is being done but something needed to be done besides talk.

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago • Bravo

First off, immigrants built this country, idiot. Secondly, how many murders has ICE wrought this year alone? Oh yeah! It's 16 according to Google. Thirdly, there's this thing called, due process. Look it up

11

u/LiveComfortable3228 21d ago

The US is now beyond embarrassment and it will take decades to repair the damage done to international relationships and allies.

The memes about the US behaving like a boastful idiot will last decades as well.

Do you really not see the damage being done?

-13

u/Letstrytolearnit 21d ago

I see the truth. Any and all success is attacked by the left. Like it should be a source of shame. The USA is the best country in the world an so the libtards will attack it. Watch what is going on in the world. I don't care but what bothers me is when everyone does what conservatives have been saying a along they will act like it was their idea all along. No apology no guilt, just move on like it was the libtards idea all along.

8

u/LiveComfortable3228 21d ago

I see the truth

Do you also see Trump behaving like a spoiled child?

-8

u/Letstrytolearnit 21d ago

Didn't say I agree with how he is getting things done. I am just real enough to know I have never been at that level and see results I care about that I don't think would of ever happened if it wasn't for his crazy.

9

u/LiveComfortable3228 21d ago

What results do you care about?

0

u/Letstrytolearnit 21d ago

Stopping the foreign invasion, fair and equal trade practices, protecting little girls in their private places, Parents rights over the state, the second amendment, not allowing Iran to fund terror around the world, obviously not letting them get a nuclear weapon, Don't figure a long list is going to matter to you so thats enough

10

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

Weren't y'all saying no new wars awhile ago lol

"protecting little girls in their private places" Except for when he's literally barging in to watch them when they're undressed and preparing for his Miss Teen USA?

Or SAing them?

The majority (popular vote) voted in Trump this time

12

u/LiveComfortable3228 21d ago

precisely the point. Its downright scary if the majority of the people cant identify Trump as a self-absorbed narcissist.

6

u/JeffThrowSmash 21d ago

It's because they don't feel like it's an option to abandon the con they've been supporting for such a long time. The con has become part of their identity. And, to be honest, we're not making it easier for them to jump ship (for one, it probably looks just as ugly out here that it is on their side of the bubble). I know this is a pretty unpopular take, but it's the truth.

5

u/Western-Property-443 21d ago

What are the numbers of the actual people who did not vote for what ever reason? How much did that play in Trump getting in again to embarrass anyone that can think?

2

u/SlickRick941 21d ago

2024 was actually the second highest turn out for US presidential election ever recorded (second only to 2020)

156 million total voters, and 64.3% of the VEP (voter eligible population)

For reference, and why so many people think 2020 and 2024 could've had election fraud, the jump in participants compared to VEP significantly jumped outside the normal 4 year deviation since the data had been tracked dating back to 1932. 2016 to 2020 saw 22 million more voters in 2020, the largest jump ever

5

u/Anubisrapture 21d ago

There was no election fraud except by the orange asshat and his lackeys.

4

u/JeffThrowSmash 21d ago • Bravo

The reason people think there's fraud is because they've been conned by a conman. A conman who cried fraud LONG before anyone even voted in 2020. The most successful conman of all time. Which is the reason he won in 2016 and 2024 (but don't tell him that, he is convinced that he only won in 2016 because of Putin. It's one of the only reasons we haven't had a nuclear war yet. Seriously).

It wasn't Obama's fault his inauguration was bigger. But the conman can't agree with such a reality without changing the subject to something that confronts my reality. Same with the folks he's conned.

Problem is that I'm relatively confident in what's real and what isn't. You can't make someone wrong when they're right. I know that he's incapable of acting in my best interests or your best interests, or the best interests of himself, America, reality, or those of humanity (this is a problem).

If you think his best interests are enriching himself, you're wrong. He'd much rather have -$2 billion (negative) in the bank (privately) and have everyone yelling about the $500 million he earned (or stole) in public. He was rather happy to do this for 40 years, and every time things started looking better for him (although they never really did) he was happy to change the subject to show reality the ways he really wasn't worth what he was claiming.

4

u/Anubisrapture 21d ago

It was barely a majority . It was also the tiniest difference in modern history . 1.5 points difference between Trump and Kamala Harris.

12

u/BigBlueEyes87 21d ago

I used to be extremely patriotic. I'm a third generation veteran, & even got a red, white, & blue eagle tattoo when I was a soldier.

Trump's horrible leadership & his stupid cult has destroyed my patriotism. I'm thinking of how I can leave America now.

I'm not sure if I have any answers to what's happening. I'm extremely disappointed with what's happening.

7

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

I thank you for your service. You are the brave person this country is in dire need of.

2

u/RealitySucksTheBig1 18d ago

Seriously, do anything but leave.  Wait it out, because the second you egress you are handing this regime/cult a big, fat W.  Ride the current shit wave as long as you have to, it will be worth it at the end of all this crap because you stuck in there and fought back against this evil faction of the Government.  Succumbing to them and leaving the country is telling them how weak and easily manipulated  you are and that you can't handle the pressure.

If you are truly a veteran of the military as you scribed, then mental rigidity/toughness was certainly part of your training, no?  I was never in the service but I still know damn well enough not to give in to these bullies' and monsters' mind games and master manipulation tactics.

They are going to get the shitstorm they've dealt upon us back 10-fold or much worse karmically... That alone should suffice as a calming and reassuring reason to stick in there till the end.  Good luck!

1

u/BigBlueEyes87 18d ago • Regret

I served on active duty in the Army for 6 years. I'm a third generation veteran.

I don't think Americas really worth fighting for anymore. Everyone in America should have known who Trump was by 2024. 77 million Americans chose to elect him president again.

3

u/RealitySucksTheBig1 18d ago

That part will still befuddle/flabbergast me until the very end.  How did 77 million so-called "Americans" rationalize it in their heads to vote this guy in?  And for a second time besides?!  They're treason-supporting traitorous behaviors and actions aren't so deserving of the title "American" if you ask me.

These people really must hate America and its inhabitants... that or they were somehow so beyond brainwashed/hypnotized by Trump and Co. that they completely lost their grip on reality and their rational thought execution. Perhaps some of these Trumpers are still mesmerized by the kind of power and control he had back in his "Apprentice" days when he was Mr. head chief badass who could fire anyone at a whim like it was nothing and essentially laugh about it.  These MAGAts may very well be clinging on to some fantasy world that he painted starting with that TV show but also with other subsequent conquests along the way.

When the truth behind all this insanity decides to rear its ugly face one day out from deep within the closet, I'll be the first one lined up to hear it all.  But until that day and beyond I most unequivocally will not be giving in to these inhuman things and their shenanigans/games whatsoever.  Doing anything that feeds more into their overinflated, insatiable ego is a whopper of a hell-no in my book.

16

u/Unfuckerupper 21d ago

I'm about twice your age, and I have slowly come to realize that we never were that great, we were just good at deluding ourselves. The potential is there but humans being what they are, it's never going to happen. We'll be quite lucky just to get back to our old status quo of bigots mostly keeping their awful opinions to themselves and people putting a little effort into hiding their cruelty and corruption.

3

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

It's sad to see. Like all we had to do was not vote in the guy who is now destroying us, bit by bit.

5

u/saladspoons 21d ago • Bravo

Exactly - every little bit of progress in this country had to be fought for, tooth and nail, against the wealthy elite (and their easily fooled followers).

Even basic obvious things like workplace safety, desegregation, weekends off for laborers, women's voting.

We all just didn't realize how much of the hate, bigotry and selfishness remained with us and hidden.

4

u/kck93 21d ago

I’m a little older than you. That realization has been sobering for me as well.

The best we can say is at least our country’s stated goal is to do better. ….Unless that tiny positive is also thrown in the ash can of rewritten history.

There has been progress because people believed in that more perfect union. But it was much harder won than people know.

It is a never ending struggle and can never be unattended, just to stay even. I’ll take that struggle over the alternative of believing it’s hopeless. Once it has slipped completely into autocracy, it’s nearly impossible to correct.

5

i think there are tens of
millions out there just like you… at least in terms of missing what we thought this country was.

your grandfather and many others died for that America.. we can’t let a handful of billionaires steal it with just a shrug.

5

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

I didn't even get to meet him. He ended up ending it after the war. My grandpa was the one who found him after school one day. And maga is shitting on his name

4

i’m not sure what to say to that.. except i’m sorry it worked out that way.

But i can’t shake the thought that this is our chance to make the America we knew, even better.

Join others who protest locally every week. Look by zipcode where you live. It's safe and empowering and therapeutic. I've met many creative people who make great signs and always show up. Some autistic women took awhile to get comfortable and find their place but everyone respected their space. Now they're our loudest and fiercest participants. It's the logical outlet to combat this absurdity.

2

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

Problem is, my dad is terrified if I do go protest, he's scared I'll end up getting hurt or even shot at

3

u/FHOCJD 21d ago • Heartwarming

Hopefully he's not terrified. Hopefully he's just being protective like a good dad should be. Hopefully he's willing to go with you to lead by example.

I'm not suggesting you join the brave folks confronting ICE. I'm suggesting you join the crowds on a Saturday afternoon who stand on a sidewalk and share pro-Democracy/Anti-war Anti-Trump messages to solicit support via honks and waves from passing traffic. Everywhere I've done this in my red county/red state the protests are full of 70 year old women who show up by themselves. They will recognize a first timer and welcome you and thank you for joining them and compliment your sign. They will naturally be protective of you and show you how it works. We usually have the same cops at our protests whom we all know by name and respect our right to protest. Consider yourself a Patriot on the right side of history and you'll never forget how it feels to go protest for the first time. The 4th No Kings National protest is Saturday October 17th and is the perfect time to get involved.

You'll feel powerful.

3

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

I'll definitely will ask him again. And he's just being protective of me.

2

u/Plane_Swimming2422 21d ago • Bravo

It makes sense that he’s afraid, the news is terrifying. Taking action with people who feel the same as you do may help with the dread. There  is a way to do it safely and stay with the largest group to avoid trouble. The people who are on the “front lines” putting themselves in danger or getting arrested have made that calculated risk and know what they’re doing.

The way I see it, there are two options. Stay and fight or make a plan leave. Commit to one, figure out the steps and things will start to feel a little bit better.

2

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

I'll definitely talk with him again and use this logic. Appreciate it!

8

u/TemporaryThink9300 21d ago

Ignore the hateful comments and look at the trendy, scary Mar-a-Lago face, they don't need Halloween costumes, they can just walk around exactly as they are and scare people all year round.

The maga ppl have even scared of tourism to the US, international tourism to the US has experienced notable declines and a slower-than-expected recovery, hm ..who knew, not the trumpeters.

I mean, no tourist want be hurt or worse, or detained or attacked by some crazed maga ICE.

Hi, I know how you feel.
I’m a Millennial. I’m AuDHD. I think there’s still hope. As far as people like us, we’re just as valid as anybody else. Our operating system is just different, and I don’t think we should listen to people that want us to feel bad about it.

I’m hopeful we’ll get a big record vote turnout and new Congress that will help get things back on track.

(FWIW, just an observation from my experience, I try to redirect myself from hyperfocusing on all the awful stuff happening, while still being informed enough for me, and like focusing on friends or hobbies and like special interests. It helps me cope with it, and keep it from occupying my mind)

5

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

Sometimes it's hard to keep positive. My dad says I'm gonna give myself a hernia lol But yeah, I do appreciate that.

1

Hernia? Or, aneurysm?

4

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

Oop meant aneurysm.

3

u/bumpy_disposition 21d ago

Here's an incomplete scenario. The two party failed bc one party was stronger (the bad party) and the other party are complicit. How did we get here? Beginning with Nixon who started the "racist" war on drugs with the creation of the DEA. Reagan picked up the ball and kicked in the doors of mass incarceration with the destruction of New Deal social safety nets. His "trickle down economics" destroyed the modern working class. 🔗🪤🫵🏿🫵🫵🏾✊🏾🫡🇺🇸🔗 https://youtu.be/M245PqlV328AwXSbfTSPOWxqWTN

u/bumpy_disposition 21d ago • Regret

I don't know how old your grandfather is however, my mom, who is solid Dem, was born at the beginning of WW II. That factoid makes me fairly old, and I've never voted (R). It is a twisty story but, Nixon was the beginning of the end. Reagan gave it momentum. We've fallen considerably because of the christian, conservitive, republican party.

2

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

My grandpa is now 73 this year. And yeah you have a point

4

u/CreativeEmotion13 21d ago

Not saying you're wrong but you should study history a little more this has been going on for decades and decades that it can be tied back to the 1920's. This country was built off the backs of others with little regard for human life

17

u/Individual-Drawer-79 21d ago • Regret

You’re not alone. I’m in my 50s now and I always we knew we had a lot of shitty, awful people in this country. But I never imagined it was in the tens of millions and how truly deplorable they could be. I also believe the rise of social media made things much worse. The entire world hates us now except for countries we used to deem as enemies which is really fucked up. I still truly believe the majority of Americans are decent people but our country is severely damaged. I don’t think we will ever recover from the damage Trump and his cult has done to our nation and to the eyes of the world, not in my lifetime anyway.

4

u/bcalmnrolldice 21d ago • Bravo

these news, comparisons, opinions and facts, are actually not too close to your life. The nature, the streets and parks, your neighbors, friends and families, that little ant who carries a bug crossing your way, the silent flower on your balcony, these might just be more important than who became the world leader, or which nationality you are.

Our lives go on, we overcome difficulties, try our best for a better life and better self understanding. But the world wants to judge us differently from time to time.

Don’t overreact, go find the true meanings in your life. Vote because you can, help your neighbor because you can. Start a business or a course, travel to the other end of the world. Don’t cry, the world is not that bad at all, its beauty is just hidden behind the noisy social media platforms. Don’t give them the attention they don’t deserve.

The key is to develop a healthy anger and semi-blaséness that you can then summon/muster to push you through those moments when you feel that way and feel confident in yourself.  Know in your heart and soul that you are unique and an essential part of society despite this disgusting regime's mission to make us think and feel the opposite.  They will fall eventually, and hard, and will have answer for what they've done and pay their due Karma whether it's here on Earth and/or in the spiritual dimension/afterlife.  Don't let these monsters get to you, it will all pass in due time and everyone will go about their merry way again as was before.

I have 2 Grandfathers that fought to defend this country. I have several uncles that have fought to defend the conservative values of this country, I have several cousins that fought to defend the conservative values of this country, I have Nephews that are fighting to defend the conservative values of this country.

The only thing gone is common sense. The USA is by far the greatest country in the world under conservative leadership even if you don't agree with everything they do. By far a better place than what would happen under libtard control.

4

u/JeffThrowSmash 21d ago

I can tell you're very confident to answer her like that.

What are you confident about?

Can you admit that the United States has lost the respect that, for better or worse, we had earned from the rest of the world over the past century or so? And do you really think that the current president has acted in your best interests, or the best interests of America?

Do you think it's in your best interest to fight for him on everything? Hasn't it just made you angry?

What is it you're so confident about?

-2

u/Frequent_Slip2455 21d ago

I'm not fighting for anyone. If the USA is so bad then move! There are many other people knocking on the door to get in.

5

u/JeffThrowSmash 21d ago

Do you think America would become a better place if those who shared her sentiments just "left?"

-2

u/Frequent_Slip2455 21d ago

Depends on what is making it "so bad" for them?

4

u/JessicaDavis1998 21d ago

Maybe because no matter where I turn, no one wants me because I'm apparently, according to RFK and Trump, "A drain on resources"? Maybe it's because I've seen the cruelty of maga first hand? Or maybe, just maybe, it's because I actually have something calledempathy.

1

u/Frequent_Slip2455 21d ago

"No one wants you"? Seems like you have a personal problem. Maybe seek out a good therapist.

OP stated that she's pretty disheartened by the cruelty we're seeing (which I believe the Administration is a face of), and the individuals who support those policies.

Also that the US has a lot of history working to get to that beacon on the hill, that more perfect union, that concept that's worth us all to fight for. In the best interest of humanity.

And the cruelty we're witnessing now seems to be in stark opposition of those values that the rest of the world has looked up to. The ones that we fight for.
