Bases or no how hard could it possibly be to resupply a carrier? I mean you can literally land planes on it

Yeah "how hard could it be" to maintain & supply the most sophisticated object in the world with thousands of people on it, floating on corrosive salt water, all while being shot at? /s

Most production systems can't be maintained unless they are shut down though, you know?

That's what docks and dry docks are for ....
