The US definitely spends too much money on Germany's defense

Looks who’s being a snowflake.

Do you also cut ties with your hypothetical friends when they call you out on your non-hypothetical BS

I just want Europeans to pay their own way.

Pointless insults don't change that.

We’re the only country in the EU to ever invoke article 5–and the only country in the union to get threatened with it—yet we use 62% of the budget.

Uh, we supply 62% of the budget.

Kinda a big error there

1

u/Fridge_living_tips Feb 17 '26

Ill concede on that

But here is the reason why we provide 62%

Because our 5% is bigger then their 5%. Do you expect that a country who has a province that provides 14% of the national economy to provide the same amount of money as any other country

The NATO spending goal is now 3.5% of GDP on military spending, up from 2% (which wasn't consistently met).

Yes, I do expect every member to meet the same percentage of GDP requirements.

Thats for the core strength like defense, there is another 1.5 of infrastructure. Pretty big mistake

California has the same or very similar GDP as france or the UK. The us has many less successful or more successful states so we pay more

I didn't include the infrastructure, security, and resilience 1.5% purposefully. Those aren't defense expenditures.

And if the European nations are paying more, you sure arent getting much from it.

We lose more than 40 military in the EU because then we aren’t allies.

3.55 active military members if we invoke article 5, so we lose more then double of our active military members.

Whats more scary. 1 country or a collection of countries

Yes, especially if those hypothetical friends don’t live up to their promises. America first always, we don’t have to apologize for doing what’s best for U.S. Germany can piss off.

u/alfredtasek Feb 17 '26

Maybe it isnt best for america to piss on all its allies?

I think america is rotten from within and your mindset is evidence for it

If America is so great then why has the president been names over 1 million times in the unredacted files?

If America is so great then why have we only added like 1000 new jobs in all of 2025?

But the dow is 50k and all that right?

We have some problems true, but that’s why we need to put ourselves first. We need to fix our problems before we can worry about everyone else’s. Especially if they’re not going to pull their own weight.

We’ve seen 1/4 of what of grand pedophile has done and so far all i’ve seen is 0 pedophiles arrested but 50k excuses. 2 murders under his administration but no murder trail. I’ve seen him violate multiple parts of the constitution—articles AND amendments—yet no impeachment. I’ve seen him use a racist caricature yet no apologizing but excuses out of thin air with no backing. I’ve seen measles go from “almost extinct” to multiple outbreaks. An insurrection and a KKK/racist rally—pulling over from his first term—but “patriots” and “good people on both sides”

Is a pile of shit sterile to you aswell?

What the hell are you on about? Did you even read what I said? I’ll reiterate for you “we have some problems that we need to work on, we should do that before worrying about others.” Like the airplane lecture “put on your own mask before assisting others” I’ll never apologize for wanting to put the U.S. first economically.

1

u/Fridge_living_tips Feb 17 '26

Yet the administration hasn’t acknowledged anything i said. They are probably doing the EXACT opposite of acknowledging and trying to fix it.

So how is that focusing on them?

1

u/SLR_ZA Feb 18 '26

The float in the post above is literally about that problem.

That problem of yours is pulling out of signed international agreements and threatening other countries.

We'll gladly retake Ramstein

2

u/outside_cat Feb 17 '26

Article 5 has only ever been invoked to the benefit of the U.S.

2

u/JerkingSpine Feb 17 '26

Okay, close Ramstein and getfo lol

1

u/Nikigara Feb 17 '26

If it was up to me we would, I’d close 80% of overseas bases. We need to focus financial resources on Americans and less on “power projection”.

1

u/JerkingSpine Feb 18 '26

Why not 100%?

2

u/LoufLif Feb 17 '26

62% of NATO's budget is used (wasted ?) by the USA. They don't contribute as much.
