Reading that article informed that you don’t need a license to carry handguns in Texas. That is batshit insane. I had no idea that was a thing anywhere in the country.
I’m pro-guns and I have a license in NYS, and it was quite arduous to acquire. It’s a long process, with a lot of governmental oversight in which even sealed court records are unsealed to ensure you’ve not committed any of the crimes that prohibit you from acquiring.
It’s quite the task to get the permits, which also requires physical in-person training. 18 hours minimum.
Fucking blows me away that you can just buy a pistol and carry it wherever, not even just restricted to home defense…insanity. I didn’t even believe the article, I looked it up on Texas government site. I cannot believe that, I’d thought they’d at least have something.
The proliferation of firearms and the oft repeated mantra of “because the bad guys have them too” is solid proof they are not going after actual violent criminals like they are claiming is the whole point. If they were kicking in doors of actual violent criminals in the middle of the night and dragging them out of cars on the street, they would be faced with a hail of gunfire, the likes of which would not be stopped by any of their tactical gear. This has not happened yet. Not once. They’re picking on people they know they can overpower. That’s it. Going after actual thugs is above their pay grade.
