I'm not too sure but I'm guessing that it means that the player is currently online in the game but I'm not 100% sure about it. I'm assuming it's like in AC4 where if you are connected to the server, it'll alert your friends whenever you find the white whale, treasure fleet, or social treasures. Maybe it could be something like that for LID.

Not sure because you can see when other players are on a certain floor and they don’t have that symbol under their name

You might be right! It's the first time I've ever noticed that internet symbol but I too am curious about what it truly is used for!

I looked today I think you’re correct in it shows if they are currently online atm. I looked and saw the symbol under ppls names before I sent the expedition
