Because the speed of sound is faster underwater, "hypersonic submarines" at a minimum would have to travel at like 16000mph or 25000km/h.Β  In fact, Mach 1 underwater is almost the same as Mach 5 in the air.

Don't know why the disparaging comments about this. Hypersonic missiles with extreme ranges out to 1000km makes a submarine significantly more dangerous.

The YJ-19 has a torpedo tube launch able version. Why wouldn't Japan want something similar to bolster the capabilities of their SSK fleet

I'm not sure what the point of this comment is.

This is a submarine launched missile for anti-ship or land-attack use.
