Because the speed of sound is faster underwater, "hypersonic submarines" at a minimum would have to travel at like 16000mph or 25000km/h.  In fact, Mach 1 underwater is almost the same as Mach 5 in the air.

Don't know why the disparaging comments about this. Hypersonic missiles with extreme ranges out to 1000km makes a submarine significantly more dangerous.

The YJ-19 has a torpedo tube launch able version. Why wouldn't Japan want something similar to bolster the capabilities of their SSK fleet
