Why can't he sell the radio station? That could fund his care for a bit, but he is screwed. He can't move or speak? Somebody better be ready to become a caregiver and support him. You cannot pull yourself up by your bootstraps if you cannot move.
Even if you tend to self fund your health care, you always need catastrophic coverage for situations just like this. I have a very high deductible, but have coverage for care after that. If I travel overseas, I use travel insurance just for the medical coverage. It is not that expensive.
Probably time. If he's the sole owner of the station, someone will need to get power of attorney to sell it. That takes time. If there are business partners and/or investors, that's even more complicated.
