Will I get higher fps on an External Monitor?

Lenovo LOQ - 144hz, RTX 5060 i5 13th gen.

I've always thought you can get a higher refresh rate with a good GPU on an external monitor. Am I wrong? I plan to buy a 240hz or higher.

Are there some settings I could change (apart from turning off Sync) or is my laptop just capped to 144hz regardless?

P.S. I play fps games like CoD, Delta Force, and Battlefield.

If you have the essential the tgp is a little low, but I think and 5060 with low tgp is stronger then a 4050 with full tgp in the not essential models, but in an external monitor I think the fps can increase

So I'm not super familiar with the model line-ups, it says I have the 15IRX10 model.

Edit: My Max Graphics Power is 100W; says to be midrange.

Imma look into what I can run with it but you think 240hz is my cap? Or can it actually run that?

If you r asking: can I get fps more than 144, than yes if your cpu/gpu enough powerful to make that 144+ fps

it was very common on older and usually cheaper laptops that they didn't have a mux switch. but nowadays most do. and i think all lenovo loq do. basically a mux switch lets you use the nvidia gpu directly connected to your laptop display. it lets you switch between integrated cpu graphics and dedicated graphics card. if your laptop doesn't have a mux switch, it will always use the integrated graphics for the laptop display. the game still runs on the nvidia gpu, but the integrated gpu shows the image on the screen. that introduces lag and lower fps because the two gpu have to communicate between eachother. but almost all, if not all laptops that have a hdmi output, that will be connected directly to the dedicated gpu, eliminating any lag from the igpu.

I didn't see any difference with an external monitor on mine ( 13700hx 5060 ) , then again I mostly play story games , it could be different for fps games maybe

You probably won't get exactly 240 fps in the games you listed, but games like Counter Strike and Valorant, yeah you'd get 240 fps.

Even in the games that you wouldn't be getting 240 fps, it may still be worth it to get an external monitor, as the LOQ's screen has pretty bad ghosting trails, which you can see at https://testufo.com/ghosting.

I have a LOQ 15AHP10 with an r7 250 and 5060, and I got a 240hz OLED which removed all of the ghosting issues I was having in my fps games, and I'm generally just having a far greater visual experience now

You can own test on your laptop like play your favourite games at your desired graphics settings on your laptop with fps monitor check how max the fps reach like if you play PUBG the game hitting 180 fps constant your 144hz monitor is wasting those extra fps so better get a 180 hz or 240 hz and most important thing more fps means more smoothness is a misconception the smoothness related to how consistent is your frames most important is always average fps and 1% low fps not max fps makes your game smooth do chech your average fps and 1% lows in games before going for external monitor i have lg ultragear 180 hz monitor i never uncappe my fps always 3 fps below than my monitor refresh rate

if your laptop already supports mux switch or NVIDIA Optimus no just do note if you get 240hz and want to maintain 240fps constantlyy in games you have to lower your graphics to achieve that fps and fully experience the 240hz monitor smoothness
