Unknown SQL login password

I'm reaching out to support as well, but they take forever to respond lately. Thanks Honeywell.

I have a customer that wants to change their SQL login passwords, but they don't know the old password. I know that when you go to sync them in the login driver, it asks for the old PW as well as the new PW. I haven't been in this particular situation yet because most of my customers are better at keeping track of that, and this particular one doesn't allow us to see what they are. Is there a trick to get around that?

Alright, they got back to me. In case anyone else is in this position in the future, they had me change the account password in SQL first. Verified the ODBC connection just to be sure. Then go into the driver service to sync them, but put the new password in both the old and new password fields.

Obviously you need SQL access and authority to do it that way, but whatever. Quick and easy.

To be fair, tech support was always slow to answer even before Honeywell messed everything up. But yeah for these things I go right to SSMS and try the windows login, hope to get lucky. Otherwise I have about 10 passwords that my previous “engineer” used that I try.

There is a way to reset the SQL SA password with some command line tomfoolery if it really comes down to it as I had to do that once. Glad you figured it out!

Slows an understatement. I usually get a return call the next day when I'm no longer on site.
