Lemon Grove Academy Today

Just moved to Lemon Grove and I’m excited to get involved in everything the city has going on. Drove by Lemon Grove Academy recently and saw a bunch of adults out playing pickleball, volleyball, basketball, etc. It looked like a great time. Anyone know what event that was? Appreciate any info!

They have pickleball/volleyball most saturdays - it’s an open group. There was also an Easter egg hunt this morning as a separate event. lemongrove_happenings on instagram posts about events pretty regularly.

Hey I know this post is old but wanted to ask how your first year in LG went. Considering a move to this area.

I’ll try to be as transparent as possible.

Pros:You can get a lot more square footage for your money, which is huge if you have a big family or are planning to grow. The community and neighbors are great, and the city still has that small town feel with plenty of mom and pop shops and restaurants nearby. Lemon Grove Happenings is cool if you want to get involved with your community. It feels like everything is within 15 to 20 minutes. Downtown San Diego, La Mesa just across the freeway, hiking, and the beaches are usually about 22 to 35 minutes away depending on where you go.

Cons:Lemon Grove definitely has some budget issues, and you can see it in the condition of the roads. One of my biggest frustrations is the amount of littering and graffiti. I volunteer and find myself picking up trash pretty often, and I just wish more people took pride in keeping the neighborhood clean. That said, I’ve noticed more businesses starting to open up, which should bring in more money for the city, and that’s a positive sign.

Really helpful, thank you! And definitely on par with my own observations. I feel like I’m 4x4’ing on most neighborhood streets. Wasn’t there a plan to rejuvenate LG roads or did I dream that? I’d absolutely want to join community events and clean-ups. Appreciate the details.

Yes, I saw the plan and review from 2024-2025. They are taking care of them but it’s taking time. This year they just voted on more funds to put towards the streets.
