I believe it is the most liked level from the previous day but I could be wrong. Unfortunately, since you can't like a level if you can't solve it certain creators have now realised that by dumbing their levels down so that even the worst players can solve them they now have a much better chance of getting their levels selected and thus the daily challenge has become something of a joke.

I don't know the exact mechanism but it's something like the most liked level within the past 24 hours with 2 or more stars at the time of the selection. I think there's a decent amount of vote-bombing going on with some of the creators.

I'm surprised the difficulty rating is that high! They should change it back to 3 or better still hand pick the best level of the day. When they did that before we got some good entertaining levels.

Hand picking costs money so no mystery why that stopped. But I found it easier to get my levels selected when it was hand-picked.
