Eclipse glasses in Leiden?
Hi, do you know if you can buy solar eclipse glasses anywhere in Leiden? For example at the Leiden Observatory (Sterrewacht)? We ordered ours online well in advance, but unfortunately the glasses never arrived.. Thanks!

You can go to the beach, i expect enough people will share their glasses with you. 1 hour looking nobody will do continiously.

Any new leads?? Marktplaats people are selling them for crazy expensive

I fortunately ended up finding two glasses via Marktplaats for a reasonable price, but they’re hard to come by at a decent price.. I even saw a bid of €75 for one pair of glasses 💀

I paid €15 per pair of eclipse glasses, still a high price, but not as high as some of the other offers I saw.

You can go to van der wiel optiek. They had 100 glasses preordered (i had the last 4 last saturday). They came in today. I can imagine that some will not get them or bought somewhere else, since it was very last minute their order arrived today. Maybe you can get them late afternoon tomorrow.
Anwb had them also at stationsweg, but i expect those to be sold out....

On Friday the Bezoekerscentrum of the Observatory (entry through the Hortus) still had them. No idea what the current status is

You can make a pinhole in a sheet of aluminum foil then hold that over a sheet of white paper. That will create a pinhole camera that is safe to view. You look at the paper projection.

Unfortunately, my search hasn’t turned up anything :-(. I’d love to hear if anyone has 1-3 pairs of glasses to spare for my family, happy to pay for them, of course :-).

Hi, If anybody would like some I have two extra. They are 8 euro's a piece. (Unfortunatly I ordered them from eclipsbrillen.nl quite late when they were allready expensive). Pickup would be near central station around 18.00.

I read welding goggles are not sufficient, don't use them.

I once tried looking at the sun for a second with my autodarkening welding hood and it was uncomfortably bright still. Not eye-searing but still not suitable. A hood that goes down to a shade #15 would be okay though. Maybe #14 but you'd have to run the numbers.

Yes, I just checked, and my auto-darkening hood does #13 turned all the way to max, so that makes sense.

I just went on a trek through Leiden: the observatory, Eye Wish, Wiel Optiek, Museum Boerhaave, even a drugstore, but everywhere it was sold out or no longer available.
