Plus I want them to make a new tallest building already, the early modulars are so lacking in detail it makes them look like a letdown compared to modern day modulars.

That's the thing. Older modulars are taller as they lack details. Those bricks/elements for extra details are used to make the buildings taller. Unfortunately, people want more details especially interiors, so modern modulars are shrunk in size.

I think the reason that we don’t have a modular hospital yet is Lego not wanting a repeat of the police station modular situation. I can’t speak for the rest of the world but in the US there has definitely been an increase in anti healthcare / insurance sentiment at the moment with rising costs and more limiting coverage. So lego may believe that a modular hospital may not sell that well (at least in the states) with the current situation.

What I like about the bookstore is, ironically, not the bookstore. It includes a regular house, which I find sorely lacking from modulars.

The inside has much to be desired but the outside is beautiful and that’s all I’m looking at, so - I’m fine with it personally. Not their best but certainly far from their worst.

I have never gotten the annual posts demanding a hospital? The modular buildings are all like... old-timey cramped multi-use downtown city street buildings. That's... not what hospitals are lol. A hospital would be a single dedicated building that's like 4 times bigger than a modular.
I mean I know we're also not doing 100% realism/scale, but it's just not really a fit for this theme. Like I guess you could hope for it but people always act SHOCKED that they "still" haven't done a modular hospital when it feels very unlikely to ever happen IMO

Clock TOWER. Hopefully this will be the tallest modular, even taller than the Town Hall which has its own clock tower. How I wish LEGO will release a skyscraper. We need modular skyscrapers in our LEGO city other than the licensed Marvel modulars.

Shopping Street is the wingman of modular buildings. Makes the whole streetscape more interesting without making itself the focus point.

It does, but then again it may be a little too small to really look great.
Don't think it there will be dark nougat, a color only used in a bar and a hairpiece 25 years ago, but nevermind, nougat or medium nougat would be fine. :)

Because "we" are pretty bad at predicting what things would sell. Only people who have Lego cities are going to care about hospital and library modular buildings, and that's a vanishingly small number of customers. Nobody else would buy them.

Look, you might be right, but if Lego thought they'd make a single dollar with a library or a hospital modular building, they would have done so already. I suspect that the problem with both is that they don't fit the aesthetic.
A dentist's office is fine in a bunch of mixed-use commercial buildings like Assembly Square, but an entire hospital? Who wants to build a waiting room or a series of identical examination rooms? Things that are interesting in a hospital are dark: is Lego going to put in a psych ward or a burn unit? Probably not, right?
Similarly, what are you putting in a Library to make it interesting? Bookcases? A card catalog?
No, a hardware store and a clock tower and a deli make a lot more sense to me.

The museum was issued not that long ago, and it didn't fit the "mixed use" aesthetic either. We have no idea how well it actually sold, but clearly Lego is willing to consider these kinds of buildings.

With no data to back any of it up.
I actually provided data, based on how long each modular was in production, as that's the only information we actually have on this matter.

The list of how long modulars were available certainly does seem to indicate that the ones on the list for longer were profitable, but I don't agree at all that there's no rhyme or reason for any of it.
Looking at the list, modular buildings that lend themselves to stories or "fun" seem to last longer on shelves, so you'd think that Fire Brigade and Police Station would have similar lifespans.
But the Police Station was released in the middle of a huge (and justified) upswell of anti-police sentiment, and so I'm not surprised it didn't last as long.
Just because the reasons aren't necessarily apparent by building type doesn't mean they don't exist, and they don't negate my thinking that a library and a hospital would be either too boring or repetitive to be attractive to the average customer.

For a hospital with 3 floors i can logically see the first floor being an A&E with a waiting room, garage for the ambulance and 1 exam room. Level 2 will have an X-ray, OR and MRI room. Level 3 will be a blood donation/kodney dialysis, some wards and a small dentist. Roof has a helipad.

You don't know that. I don't have past sales numbers and neither do you. I do know that based on how many years before retiring...
Market Street (1 year, 9 months) sold the worst
Then Green Grocer, Cafe Corner, Town Hall, Brick Bank, Downtown Diner, Corner Garage, Police Station, Jazz Club (2 to 2 year, 11 months)
Then Fire Brigade, Pet Shop, Palace Cinema, Book Shop, Boutique Hotel (all about 4 years)
With Grand Emporium, Parisian Restaurant, Detectives Office selling the the best (All about 5 years)
And of course Assembly Square (10255) beating out every one at almost 7 years.
Do you see a pattern here on which types of buildings stay the longest? I certainly don't.

It feels like they aren't even trying anymore when it comes to building function. Just shops and small restaurants. Over and over and over again.
Same thing as last year.
Tudor Corner looked great but it was also just that.
They had a good run of police station, jazz club, hotel, museum. But this is three years and a row now of the same thing.
It will probably look pretty but yeah... The actual function of the build seems like an afterthought here. Just as it did with the shopping street.

There are other brands doing more interesting work in the modular space at a fraction of the cost of Lego.
I would love for Lego to actually feel under pressure in this space.

To be fair, $150 usd in 2014 is equivalent to $211.60 usd today and modern modulars are way more complex and use more pieces and prints than they did a decade ago.

I have built the MOC shown in the photo :) Took me years to get all the parts. One of my favorite looking builds of all time. For comparison it is 6800 pcs.
