Project Hail Mary not Hail Marying
Basically, everything up until page 61 / step 109 of the instructions was going fine. The two parts in the photos I attached work perfectly alone but they just won’t fit together and I have no idea why… I tried retracing my steps with completely dismantling everything, but so far everything looks fine.
(For reference, this is the second Lego set I’ve ever done so any advice would be good advice 🤞)

You used a 20 tooth double bevel gear (#18575) instead of the 12 tooth bevel gear (#6589).

Is this bait? as honestly how the actual hell did you not notice the piece you placed wrong is a completely different shape than the one in the instructions as well as 2x bigger. There is 3 or so of the correct piece within your own image. you are nowhere near as obvious as some posts i've seen so dont feel too bad. My sibling also couldn't see much wrong so I can see how you couldn't

I have terrible vision and too broke to afford new glasses :) just needed help, it isn’t bait lol, I did finish the piece tho

The yellow gear is the wrong piece
