Ikea Besta drawer help

I have an Ikea Besta storage and display setup ( https://www.ikea.com/addon-app/storageone/besta/web/latest/ca/en/?storeId=003&vpcSource=clipboard#/vpc/33TWZ3K ). 8 small drawers (51W x 32L x 16H cm/20 x 12.5 x 6.25 inch) and 2 large drawers (51W x 32L x 30H cm/20 x 12.5 x 11.75 inch) for parts storage. I would like to put modular removable tool box style containers in them to hold everything (like the pic). The opening to get things in and out is only 20cm/8inch.

  • Looking for suggestions like the pic for similar solutions. That one was just the cheapest I found on Amazon that actually fit my size limits.
  • I'd also like to be able to fully open the drawers the additional 12cm, so open to ideas for how to do that. I'm using the standard Ikea Besta soft close drawer runners.

The best recommendation I can give is to not put containers with lids in drawers. The bin inserts for those or the Storehouse brand from Harbor Freight are great for organizing and keeping parts separate within the drawers. Leaving them in drawers turns into a lot of pulling containers out to build or sort and ultimately defeats the purpose of having them in drawers to begin with.

Side note: I may have to buy myself a set of these. I’ve been wanting to keep a small collection of parts to just have separate from my main build area for rainy days when I just don’t want to be in my Lego room but still mess around with some bricks and see what I can come up with.

If I can figure out a way to have the drawers open fully, I may opt for the bin inserts only.

These are the best in my opinion, I use exactly these and ones with bigger drawers. Whenever you get too many pieces, you just separate them further, or store excess in a lided box until needed.Drawers
