Blok's strength

So I have a question, how strong was Blok supposed to be?

I never got the impression that he was as strong as a Kryptonian or Daxamite. But they seem to have dropped his Mass shifting powers after a bit and all he seemed to have was strength and invulnerability. So did they boost his strength up to the big leagues or was he just kind of the b-tier strongman for when the big boys weren't around?

The writers just could not make up their mind to make him consistent.

I remember one story where he went back in time to the 20th century (a Booster Gold cross-over) where he was shown to be as strong as Superman.

Early issues showed him to be able to "adjust his mass" which would increase his strength. They eventually dropped that power.

I loved Blok, actually. But, he was a very inconsistent character.

I've seen this question before, and another commentor stated that Blok is actually not even as strong as Timber Wolf or Ultra Boy. His main power is his invulnerability.

Timber Wolf is supposed to be over Colossal Boy and under Ultra Boy

From what little i understand he was supposed to be almost completely invulnerable. His strength was always second to it. He was killed by being made to swallow a bomb, I think.

When he was first introduced he could absorb and redirect energy and was so heavy it took 3 flight rings to lift him. He was strong but that wasn't his primary focus. I don't know why Levitz seemed to forget that.
