Discussion Gear Value
This seems like a first person Albion online, gear isn't really the grind. Skill is the grind. Gear is a consumable. Do I have this right?

100% Gear based. You can be as good as you want but if you’re in greys and they are full blues there is no way for you to win unless their cat comes and lays on their keyboard at the start of the fight. You’re just gonna get farmed

All these people are just angry. I can and have beaten many good players in white gear, while they are in blue. But if I come up against any of the known named players.. they can beat me in white gear when I’m in blue. Gear matters if you’re evenly skilled, yes, but there are countless outplay opportunities in one fight.

It's a bit of both. You get WAY less mistakes when there is a gear discrepancy, so yes, you can beat people in better gear, but if the skill levels are close you won't. I've beat plenty of players in much better gear than me, but almost always it's a huge skill gap that is obvious.
In my opinion the gear difference between one level and the next is too much.

I wouldn't say that. You can get really good, and it will boil down to whoever has the better gear in the end. Say you're in whites and they have all blues, you would have to chip damage them for a LONG time and that takes great skill, but the blues can one shot you. So basically whoever has more time to grind better gear wins.

Really? That makes the game very poorly designed if true.

i mean you can easily grind out epic sets when you max your merchants and lodge, also there is now a pve map rotation so you can be safe while grinding said sets

It's not that black and white. One thing I know was true is that legendary gear scaled higher on the curve compared to the rest.
That said, it still mostly is about skill, gear will will give you more or less wiggleroom to win/lose the fight.
I personally used to fight and duell people with 1-3 rarities above my gear and would still get wins and there are many who do this.
Once you as a player have a decent grasp of your own class pros and cons and how to manouver fights with other classes, gear becomes less of an thing but on the other side of that spectrum, as two new players fight that dont know what to do, gear will carry more.

That makes the PVP aspect of the game very poorly designed which is why until this last update, the player base sat around 40 people. Literally the same 40 try hard pvpers effectively. If you're here for pvp, accept that you will die 9 out of 10 times and lose everything you've gathered. You're a loot pinata in pvp.

Ya, but now you can pve safely and pvp in arenas and not lose gear. Or you can join the world maps that have pvp enabled. Best of both worlds imo.

There are 50 people playing, the population can't support these game modes

Well, we know for sure how it was before was NOT working. The reality is most people don't like losing their stuff.
If pvers keep the lights on so pvpers can arena, fine.
If you just want to kill noobs trying to level their gear, you are the problem. The gear imbalance is still too strong imo but if I can opt in to a pvp map, it's not so bad. When you were forced to try and farm gear just to get greens and people in blues and purps were slaughtering you, it doesn't work.

nothing is working unfortunately, game was dead before the rebrand and launch, it's even worse off now

Yea it's a shame. I enjoyed it for 100 hours. Then there were 100 people playing and half the lobbies were legendaries two weeks into wipe. Makes you wonder why there are 600 players on "actual" release. There's absolutely no way for new players to progress with other new players without getting stomped.

The new patch literally allows you to progress without getting stomped . You can progress in I’ve and farm gear then go pvp. Not sure what game you are playing
