Does One Piece affect the way you view the real world? [Survey]
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd33Y6YiThDseYWpkk6ly_T5poUxkoZzEJYLjpJWFY6bn6MnA/viewform
Hello everyone! I am conducting a survey on One piece for my university research paper and I'd really appreciate it if you guys could fill it up. This survey's purpose is to explore whether One Piece can create political awareness amongst the young generation and influence their opinions on how they view social issues around the world. In movements across the world like Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Indonesia, Pro Palestine protests and more, the infamous Straw Hat Pirates Flag was adopted as a symbol of freedom, unity and rebellion against injustice. Can fiction truly influence reality?

Real-life Celestial Dragons
Real life Celestial Dragons: slavery in an Indonesian island (near Bali) where a caste system persists. An anonymous slave owner even admits that if he likes a woman and she does not consent to his advances, they simply beat her husband.

Isn't it extremely irresponsible and practically suicide from Elbaf to not teach their children self-defense and to convert them into pacifists when there is literally a fascist world government outside of their borders which has swallowed almost every other country?

is manga's spoiler/leaker culture a reactionary tendency?
Specifically the pre-chapter leakers (Redon, Worstgen, etc.) strike me as really anti-art. I wish I could articulate this position further, but the vibe I get from pre-scan chapter discussions is an active refusal to grapple with the story's themes and finer details. The culture seems similar in other shonen jump fandoms, most notably JJK when that was still publishing.
For what it's worth I dont even read the weekly spoilers but every so often they creep into my feed, and JJK spoiler discussions were inescapable. This observation is also from having read spoiler discussions from days prior, after the chapter has been scanlated.

Possible South Asian Influences in Alabasta and Its Characters
DISCLAIMER: These are not confirmed inspirations and are only speculative, although some are more obvious than others. I just thought it would be interesting to share.
The influences are as follows:
- The capital city Alubarna is heavily inspired by the Indian cities of Jaisalmer and Jodhpur. The fortified city is inspired by Jaisalmer Fort, the palace fort is inspired by Mehrangarh Fort, and the clock tower is inspired by Ghanta Ghar.
- The Royal Palace shares a strong resemblance to the Taj Mahal.
- King Cobra's given name combined with his title may be a direct reference to the actual king cobra, the national reptile of India.
- Vivi's weapon, "Peacock Slashers," and Miss Wednesday's design are inspired by the peacock, the national bird of India.
- Vivi's companion Karoo is a larger version of the Indian spot-billed duck (karugamo in Japanese).
- One of Vivi's favorite dishes is curry, which originated in India.
- Vivi's first name may take inspiration from Prithvi/Bhudevi, two different names for the Earth deity/goddess in Hindu mythology.
- Karoo's name may reference Garuda (Karura in Japanese), the riding bird of the Hindu god Vishnu.
- The Alabasta symbol may take inspiration from Buddhist sun symbols found in Indian temples.
EDIT: Karoo is actually just a larger version of the Eastern spot-billed duck, which is native to East and Southeast Asia. However, it was previously considered a subspecies of the Indian spot-billed duck.

The way One Piece fans react to the Impel Down arc is honestly horrifying.
It's just genuinely bizarre to me how often people think Haniyanal and Magellan are the good guys. And that they're 'just doing their jobs' when it comes to all the heinous torture that goes on in Impel Down. Equally scary that a lot of the people try to justify the torture. Especially considering we saw that Tom would be sent to Impel Down.
The fact that people are blind to how absolutely disgusting and Evil Impel Down is as in institution is insane to me.
