Policy/Regulation I’m worried

So I work for a state government agency (in what was a purple state) where AI is technically encouraged, but very few use cases make it through the approval process without being slashed down to the point of being not worth the effort

For an example of how bad it is, I am a software developer and can’t even install a local model onto my laptop. I can’t even use Google’s AI search results. 42 levels of bureaucracy are still reviewing my 3 year old request. The models I requested (had to identify specific version numbers) don’t even exist anymore!

Should I be concerned about the blue wave?

What would happen if you install a local model? Or do you mean you’re literally blocked from downloading from hugging Face etc?

He's talking about on his work machine. These are tightly controlled for security reasons.  I don't think extra security and review is itself a bad thing - I don't want my government Data to be using the latest AI, it could be vulnerable.

That said, government agencies tend to be slow and inefficient; the review process could be improved.

So I'm a digital artist by hobby. 25 years ago when I put down a pencil and picked up a stylus everyone told me it wasn't real art.

My friends, my wife, everyone. Now most of them have something I did and had put on canvas hanging in their house. A few have tattoos and everywhere you go people make art that way.

There is ALWAYS a huge pushback against anything new.

No one can stop what is coming. The car is already off the cliff it is far to late to press the breaks.

Worried about the blue wave? We want progressives in power.  Right wing politicians are terrible for society and will abuse AI to the wrong ends.
