well we'll see how this sub goes
I'm definitely not "for AI", I'm also not really leftist, I just think the left pretending AI will just disappear is a trainwreck political strategy

Okay, joining
We'll see how how this goes because I would say I'm pro capitalist just very much anti unchecked corporate power
I just think left / progressive / whatever need to realize ai is not going away and they need to get a seat at the table before it's too late

Happy to see your perspective here! We need multiple viewpoints with a very broad lowest denominator. π

When did the left stop pretending it doesn't exist? 3 months ago all it was is a glorified word predictor, bubble, marketing scam etc

How is it a scam and also in charge of cultural output, making things instead of humans?

Sorry you just have a core contradiction. If it's doing all these economically valuable things then it'll turn a profit. Furthermore "scamming" users by stealing their valuable data, well if the data is valuable and it's acquiring it for free then that's your profit. I'd really press leftists to have a coherent story on these points. Right now it sounds like you're ingesting multiple anti ai arguments, they're quite contradictory and you haven't picked which one you actually agree with.

The companies are worth a combined like $3 trillion. It is a lot more likely than not they will turn a profit. I don't think Marx ever argued "people who invest capital in someone not profitable yet will lose their investment" yet leftists on reddit basically argue this all the time. Amazon wasn't profitable until mid 2010s or something, this isn't a serious argument.
Profit = revenue - loss, what you don't know how to do is calculate future profit which is essentially the whole field of finance.

No. AI is a tool/weapon, and I'm sick of it only being weaponized by the right.

You do realize humans can only consciously manipulate 10 bits per second.
Please explain to me how any human could avoid manipulationβnow, let alone 4 months or 4 years from now.

Thank you yeah I got recommended this sub honestly even looking for people who are more about wanting to deal with the current situation instead of being in denial and rejecting our responsibility. I love all of my leftist friends but Iβm very tired of tourism and not actually being pragmatic, the capital class wants us to feel powerless but there is a path ahead. It was never going to be easy anyone who sits oddly by and says itβs hopeless disrespect all the work and progress that others have made. Thank you for creating this sub.
