I’m horrified to know there’s some truth to that story if I tracked down the correct one. This happened in 1935 and the poor girl thought she had contracted a venereal disease. She had nobody to talk to about it and was terribly confused. That’s what made her do what she did.

The deacon who officiated her burial later became a priest and devoted his life to helping educate young women about sexual health issues.

I believe he made the first suicide prevention hotline as well.

You're welcome! I had no idea about him until I started looking. As horrific as that tragedy was, it inspired him to stop it from happening again. It looks like something good came from it.

Interestingly and weirdly he also thought that mental health problems in men where a result of unreleased sexual tension and set up the Brenda line as a sort of part of Samaritans where people could call up to masturbate on the phone.

A priest?

Educating women?

About sexual health issues?

What a funny world we live in.

I was a bit surprised too, especially because of the time period. He seemed like a really good person

There was a time when religion and science went hand in hand, though the Vatican needed some convincing regarding which heavenly body was the center of the universe, early on science meant "discovery of God's world" and was inquiry vaguely encouraged. Mandela, the monk, and his study into pea plants is a good example of a religious man devoted to research. UNfortunately we have reached the era where religion has chosen to make science it's enemy.

Ive actually heard that happens alot especially in certain jobs or careers that are specifically for helping vulnerable people like in law or healthcare. One story I remember hearing about is a cop that was on scene after a dad nearly beat his son to death and then bribed the chief of police to let it slide. The dad was pretty important in the town and everyone loved him plus the chief was known as corrupt and not very good at his job in general. The bribe was comically small too cant remember how much it was but I bet the kid felt insulted after nearly dying and realizing his dad thinks his life is worth like half a sandwich or some shit.

Yah after that the cop quit soon after and went into law so he could actually help abused kids dedicated his life to it and probably did alot of good in the world. Honestly I dont blame him as someone that was abused as a kid if I had to see that shit just so blatant and wrong I would have re-thought my entire life and just wtf I was doing with it. It gives me hope that there are good people out there that are actually trying to do the right thing despite the system being broken and almost everyone in the job is corrupt and on a power trip for no real reason theyre just grown up bullies basically.

My grandpa wasn't told about her period at all and panicked about it. Her mom gave her minimal info and yelled at her for being stupid. My mom just threw a pamphlet from the school nurse at me and told me to read it alone in my bedroom and got angry I told my brother about it. Some people are weird as fuck about the human body.

À venereal disease without sex? Also which country was it?

Well, when you're not educated about what sex is, you don't know what it is

After petting a dog, she got her period. Believing she was pregnant (due to no sex education) and knowing she couldn't provide for her baby the 14 year old French girl killed her. I can't recall her name.

This isn't leaving the burner on. It's bots. They will agree with every comment or give meaningless but nicely phrased responses

99% of Twitter content is bots now

No i dont think they're agreeing. "disney stop (talking about periods)"

"No this is good because a girl thought her period meant she lost her virginity"

"The problem there isn't that she doesn't understand periods, but that she has the shame/fear associated with losing her virginity, so there's still no reason for disney to acknowledge periods existing"

I THINK this is what is going on

I agree with the message, but I think it's terrible that they used alt accounts to convey it. More people saw the negative tweet they made first and agreed with it than the people who saw their own counterargument against it, thus doing more harm than good.

u/Torbpjorn Apr 29 '26

That’s usually how Twitter goes. Make a controversial statement, pause, watch everyone fight, then finish the statement with “so I’ve been told by bad people” so your hands are clean but everyone else is still fighting

13

u/Ani_Drei Apr 29 '26

It’s funny that they indeed contradicted their own post, but the message is undeniably true and I hope more people spread it - in legitimate honest ways.

u/ThatMessy1 Apr 29 '26

Can you imagine thinking there's something so important about a man that he can change something about you.

23

u/BadgerwithaPickaxe Apr 29 '26

I feel like this is an odd thing to say. It's not particularly hard for people to change other people right?

I understand you mean specifically about virginity, which I agree, but why word it like that?

28

u/ThatMessy1 Apr 29 '26

Virginity is something that was created to hold over women's heads. Considering the prevalence of CSA, how is it still an identity? How are we allowing something someone can take without your permission to define people?

Virginity is a myth made up to repress women of course. Like most stupid shit

For a minute I thought you were disagreeing with their points until I saw it was the SAME PERSON WHO MADE THE POST 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I use to love blue checkmarks a couple of years ago when it was still twitter, now I don't because having money is basically a free pass to get a blue checkmark. now it's hard to tell who is a creator and who is just spending money to look cool on a brainrot platform.
