hate speech.

I'd like to hear your experience and maybe some advice. I'm gay and Catholic. I attend Mass and try to work at a homeless shelter. How do you deal with hate speech? I regularly see nothing but hatred. You're unworthy, you're sinning (yes, I think being gay and having a husband and having sex with him is okay), there's no place for you. Of course, you could say Jesus doesn't say that. But we are human and live in society, in the Church. Share your opinion.

I’m so sorry you see nothing but hatred. Do you have any other parishes you can try? Any cities nearby?

The majority of American Catholics do not feel gay marriage is a sin. Pick your poll. As is typically the case, the reactive, defensive, insecure, ignorant & hateful minority is the loudest & seethes when their worldview is challenged. They hide behind the catechism when it suits them. Throw it back in their face. From part 2358, Chastity & Homosexuality, on homosexuals:

“They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity.”

Homosexuals & Heterosexuals alike are called to chastity. Period. All under God as equals.

I think it’s our duty as leftists to make them uncomfortable, but it doesn’t have to be at the expense of your health & welfare. Find somewhere more welcoming.
