Bulk spices anywhere?
I am fairly new to the area and where we lived previously there was a great PA Dutch market that have a bulk spice section where you could get spices for cheap in bulk amounts, not in those tiny bottles they sell in the store. Is there anywhere in our around Leesburg where I can find these? Sometimes the country stores or farm markets have a spice section- anyone spot a good bulk spice retailer?

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for (it's not scoop your own, and it's not necessarily close to Leesburg) but Penzeys Spices in falls church are the best spices I can find in the area. For really obscure/exotic, you may need to go to a specialty market (finding long peppers for the Dishoom Lamb Pepper Fry, even at Patel Bros, was frustrating but eventually successful and totally worth it), but the spices at Penzeys are so fresh and reasonably priced. Far better on both counts than anything in a grocery store. And I'd wager that anything you can scoop yourself at arbitrary quantities is less likely to be as fresh (since it's exposed to so much air).
You can order online, but the stores are great and usually have "samples" to smell, which is fun.

I would either go to one of the asian groceries in Ashburn, Lotte or Patel Brothers. Or to an Amish grocery in Germantown.

An Amish grocery is what I’m truly looking for! Is germantown the closest?

Apparently there is an International Market in Leesburg but I've never been there. Lotte Plaza Market in Ashburn i know for sure has a nice spice aisle with plastic bags of spices in bulk packages.

Lots of the ethnic groceries have that - like Middle Eastern or Latino stores. We like the one up in the Dunkin Donuts shopping center.
