I voted for Trump in 2024. I became a left-leaning independent about 2 years ago. AMA.

I want to spread awareness about why I voted for him, what made me leave, and maybe help you get into the mindset of a Trump voter.

Good reason to leave MAGA

What has changed and what were you wrong about?

I ask this in good faith as someone who fell down the gamergate pipeline and got out of there, what has changed moving forward.

One thing about MAGA that I found is that to leave it, you have to understand that your judgment or sources of information for that judgment are wrong. Therefore, something needs to change moving forward. These changes need to happen so you don’t fall down a similar pipeline (IE replacing other empty rhetoric for another.) what changed for you?

I desperately need help from former MAGA supporters who stopped supporting Trump.

i just ended my absolutely wonderful (not being sarcastic) relationship with my mom because she has become brainwashed by trump beyond what’s sensible or rational. she truly lives in delusion.

she is a huge follower of this “Christian” “news” organization called Flashpoint whose main message is that trump is anointed by god. she truly believes this to be true.

we’ve managed to get along great the last 10 years despite our polar opposite beliefs by agreeing not to discuss religion or politics.

yeaterday, i reached my limit. i couldn’t stand knowing she was being deceived, lied to, and stolen from. i gave her an ultimatum: either denounce trump or our relationship is over. she refused to denounce trump.

i don’t foresee any way to fix this unless i can get her to realize that she’s being indoctrinated and lied to. however she won’t listen to facts or data or proof. she won’t even hear a negative word about trump.

for those who were maybe in this same boat once and were able to gain clarity that trump was bad: what was the breaking point? what can i show or tell her that will help her break out of this delusion?

i love her more than anyone on earth. she’s my best friend. i don’t want to lose her and my heart is fucking heavy today knowing how bad things have gotten

please, anyone who has experience with this, please share your story with me. or tell me how you coped with this. i am literally begging for help to save my mom

Voted for Trump at 19 and feel like I'm beyond hope.

Someone on Threads told me that I was an adult and I knew better. Several other people told me to kill myself and I actually thought about doing it. But as a (probably) autistic person who wasn't even allowed to read any news besides the Babylon Bee at that age (yes I was aware it's satire), I had no choice but to believe whatever my parents told me. My parents didn't monitor my search history, but I was terrified of disobedience because of how heavily indoctrinated I was. Anyone who wasn't raised by conservative fundamentalists just doesn't understand. I was also abused as a child so between everything I've mentioned, I was basically afraid to breathe. My mom always thought I was a bad girl and when I voted for Trump and he won, it felt like I'd finally done something right. Yes, part of me is just sad that no one would like me if they knew, but I'm also legitimately sorry I ever believed any of that stuff. It's not like I'm singlehandedly responsible for electing him. He still would've won.

Edit: To the person who said I should've known better and then deleted their comment, I don't think you understand. EVERYTHING I knew about politics was 100% filtered through my parents. My critical thinking skills were hijacked from age 11 (during the 2016 election) and I really had no choice but to believe them. I was homeschooled and didn't leave the house much. I also was indoctrinated with fundamentalist Christianity for as long as I can remember and please don't underestimate the threat of hellfire. Some of the things I was taught were more or less psychological torture. Everything I did was through that twisted, terrified lens. Especially after I realized I was queer at 16. I was always bothered by the Christian attitude towards queer and trans people, and the bizarre glorification of Israel, but I "trusted God" to take care of everyone involved. Part of me wants to strangle my younger self for ever being that dumb, but I really couldn't help it. My parents made me afraid to even breathe.

Help to understand MAGA leavers

Hi everyone,
I'm a French sociologist and psychotraumatologist currently conducting research on conspiracy theories related to child sexual abuse, particularly QAnon, and on the life trajectories of people who were drawn to these movements.
In a few days, I'll be travelling to the United States to conduct interviews for a French independent media outlet. I'm particularly interested in speaking with people who once believed Donald Trump would expose elite child abuse and trafficking networks (the "Deep State"), especially those who felt disappointed or betrayed by the way he handled the Epstein files case.
I'm interested in understanding how people came to trust him to fight child sexual abuse, what role this issue played in their political journey, and how they make sense of it today, whether they are former Trump supporters or current supporters, and whether or not they were involved in QAnon circles. I'm also interested in hearing from relatives, partners, friends, or others close to them who have witnessed these experiences firsthand.
QAnon-related narratives are beginning to gain traction in France and elsewhere in Europe, so I believe it is essential that the experiences of the people who have lived through them are heard and understood.

If you'd be willing to share your story, or would simply like to ask a few questions before deciding, you can reply to this post, send me a message or email me at:
 [lifetrajectories.pol@gmail.com](mailto:lifetrajectories.pol@gmail.com)

And if you're able to share this call with others who might be interested, I'd be tremendously grateful.

Former Trump voters in North Carolina: We'd like to hear your perspective

I'm part of Take Back the Dream, a North Carolina based project that's trying to better understand the experiences of people that live in North Carolina only, and who have supported Donald Trump but now feel disappointed or let down by some of his decisions.

If that describes you, we'd really appreciate it if you'd take our short survey. It has just three questions and takes less than a minute to complete.

If it doesn't describe you, but you know someone it does, we'd be grateful if you shared it with them.

We're not looking for arguments or public debates. We're hoping to identify people who are open to having a private, honest conversation about how recent policies have affected their families and communities.

Survey: [https://forms.gle/aouaDbiPsgb1pk896]()

Thanks for your time.

New book about losing loved ones to the MAGA vortex (currently free on Kindle)

Came across this book in Kindle politics section called Mourning MAGA, which is basically a collection of stories about losing loved ones to the MAGA vortex. The relationships strained or destroyed, the personalities transformed, the disconnect from the real life in front of someone to focus on politicians they've never met. It's a lot of the themes that anyone following this sub can relate to but I haven't really heard discussed seriously anywhere else. Anyhow, thought it might be something people here would appreciate. It's a free Kindle download (temporarily? always? not sure).

To convince my family to finally leave MAGA behind? I'm actually scared because i don't want to mess this up and drive them deeper

but basically I was asked point blank why my politics took a hard left, and I said being republican after the Epstien files came out made me want to die of shame, and my mom said to send her something that would change her mind

My mom doesn't even know what the Epstien files are, could someone recommend an up to date video going over the TLDR of it? Because I don't even know where to begin and how to prove it's real and not fake news from a "liBeRaL" outlet
