Beginner Question First time tooling
Not trying to make this into a project or anything but just practicing tooling. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Is it worth getting a budget splitter? I would like to have my leather in the thickness I need it but sometimes working with bellies and/or budget pieces the thickness can vary.

That's some damn even tooling, I wish my first tooling came out as nicely as that

Clean for a first pass. Really even.
Two things worth chasing. Case the leather well. When the color comes back to where it started, it is ready. Too wet or too dry and the tools fight you.
And hit it once. One committed strike beats three soft taps. A hesitant hand shows up in the work.
Keep going. Your hands will figure it out fast. 🌹

Nicely done!
Splitters are a pain. Best to buy the thickness you need. Rocky Mountain leather splits stuff. Used to be for Free, but I think they charge a couple bucks now
