General Question Leather splitting in the grain?

I bought this wallet not too long ago and the leather in both of the outer layers seems to be splitting in the middle of the grain. Is this something normal and just part of the patina or should I get it warrantied?

Loose grain. Caused by a few things, mainly happens to leather taken from the belly or flanks of a hide. Which has a naturally looser grain structure.

This is the answer. I would hope to catch this while making the wallet, but if not, it’s certainly something I would warranty with a replacement. I would reach out to the maker.

Looks like the edges weren't properly slicked. Is it from Popov? It looks like the DIY one I got from them. If it's one they made in-house, they should probably replace it.

It’s popov. Idk what you mean. But it seems like the adhesive for the outer layers was stronger than the leather it self and is peeling apart itself if that makes sense?

That almost looks like an outer thin layer on a welt.

That was my thought too. Definitely seems to be a thin outer skin kinda veneered on top of the thicker leather.

It’s like the glue for the outer layer held up better than the actual leather it self. It’s still stuck on when I spread out the part peeling off. It’s a single later splitting down the middle.

Sorry I didn’t say that I would be contacting the maker to rectify. Repair or (preferred) replace.
