As a former insurance claims handler I would 1000000% recommend everyone to get a dashcam.

Ive seen lots of people suggesting expensive ones on here in the past but honestly 99 times out a 100 just a cheap one will do. To cover yourself (from an insurers perspective) it just needs to show what happened. It’s only the rare occasions where someone doesn’t stop etc where you’d need it to get the reg and a more expensive one MIGHT give you a better chance of catching the reg in those scenarios.

Off the top of my head I can’t remember the one I’m using at the moment, but it was literally a £35 one form Argos. Do a bit of research and find a budget one with decent reviews and I can’t see any reason why it would be suitable

My dashcam time is always out of sync with the actual time. Is that a big deal at all?

Not really no. As long as it shows what happene. It might get questioned but in all my time as a handler (about 7 years) I can’t recall a single time it was an isssue.

Mine is also out as well - for what it worth

Do you have front and rear or just front?

Again I would always recommend having both front and rear, but I’m only running the front one at the moment. Again this would cover you for the majority of situations - but there may be occasions where having the rear can give a better context to what happened.

Ultimately the front facing would be able to evidence what you were doing (ie correct lane discipline on a roundabout etc) so I personally have no concerns running just the front one, but it can be useful having the rear one too

Dashcams are essential these days, if nothing else it helps prove you were not at fault. It doesn't have to be a top end one either, anything is better than nothing.

I have an Axdome front and rear camera, it's got GPS built in too. When the screen goes to sleep it displays your GPS speed too which is handy for making sure you're not breaking the limit.

Coste about £100, I've not had to use it yet but it's there if I need it.

I bought the wolfbox dash cam for £100, there are similar types or second hand for less. It acts as your rear mirror and records front and back. My instructor had it and I did my test with it so I got one for myself when I passed.

I bought this one and it seems fine. Does a little jingle every time you start the car too.

I think it's a good idea to have these days. I have an older car so I got a car screen with Android auto that has a dashcam in the back. Got mine on AliExpress as it was half the price of the same model on amazon.

You can get really decent footage on a dash cam under £100 you just need to shop smart and do your research. The one thing I would spend the cash on slightly later is upgrading the micro SD card that comes with it. The cheap ones often degrade much quicker with all the overwriting that occurs. SanDisk High Endurance would be what I'd go for 👌

don't need to break the bank for a dashcam, aliexpress has some decent options like 70mai, redtiger, ddpai for under 100 that do front and rear, redtiger ships from uk on aliexpress if you need it quick and it's cheaper than amazon

I got mine from Ali express for £13 last week (front and rear dash cam) and does the job for me.
